Has there been a list compiled of the more popular DAC choices that include Wolfson DACs?

I believe the Little Dot and NFB-12 uses Wolfson chips, but what else?

PSaudio PerfectWave Dac is one of the more overpriced ones.

Rega has a Dac that uses 2 Wolfson WM8742 chips...rated higher than AGD woflson Dacs. just under 1k

Two others that come to mind (that I have)

are the Audinst HUD-MX1 and the Neko D100 DACs.

Cambridge Dac Magic uses Wolfson 8740.

All the Linn streamers use Wolfson 8741 : Majik DS, Akurate DS and Klimax DS.

Arcam R dac uses Wolfson too.

Thanks for the responses, everyone.

I am willing to put $500 into the DAC; I'll have to compare the prices of what's been mentioned.

But they should all be pretty similar in terms of neutrality, correct?

yup!

For the most part anyways.

Anyone with a more expensive Wolfson version will obviously tell you theirs is "night and day" different but... those with the cheaper ones will probably say they are  90% of the top tier DACs... really depends on your perspective.

You can't go wrong with audio GD for the price though.

i wonder if kingwa intend to use WM8742 in NFB-8,

anyone tried Rega DAC yet?

WM8741 is the higher end chip. Look at the data sheet and the SNR

Indeed... The Wolfson naming system makes very little sense. The WM8742 is a mid-range chip, somewhere between the WM8740 and WM8741. Their highest performing and most expensive chip is the WM8741.

NFB-2, NFB-3 use dual WM8741

AMB Labs γ2

There is also the Headphonia Cable Dac..  $69 for a WM8740 based unit.

Unless you are strictly interested in WM87XX units (not specified in the OP) then the AMB Gamma1 (WM8501) and the Grub (WM8524) should also be included..

LD DAC_I uses WM8740.

So is it possible to rank the wolfson chips in term of performance or is it not possible?  If so, will it be something like this:

Wm8741

Wm8740

Wm8742

Wm....

Wm....
