Questions about connecting a PC to stereo receiver > active sub > bookshelves.

Hi all, total beginner here.

I'm looking to upgrade my computer audio and I'm thinking I can get the best bang for my buck from buying a stereo receiver, an active sub, and a pair of bookshelf speakers (correct me if I'm wrong).

I want a good 2.1 setup for games and music with a budget of around €250.

My current sound card is an Audigy 2 platinum ex, connections can be seen here - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/dts-7,691-3.html

I'm not sure what I should be looking for in each component (pricing included), or how exactly to connect them together. Here's what I'm thinking connection wise though:

  • Connect the front L-R output from the back of the card the line in on a stereo receiver
  • Connect the receiver to the active sub via the L-R speaker connections with speaker wire.
  • Connect the active sub to the bookshelves via a second set of L-R connections on the sub.

I'm aware that I could use the optical or SPDIF output to the receiver, but I've heard that the Audigy will only output 2.0 in digital.

Could anyone help me with choosing components and connectivity?

Would something cheap like this work for a receiver?
