Regarding a digital ouput....

Hi,

i have a few questions.

1. if the CD player / sound card have the digital output coaxial. they still need the external DAC?

2. For example, if the DAC is needed then how is the connection setup?

    CD Player (digital output coaxial) -> External DAC (digital input coaxial) ->(analogue input) amp -> speaker?

    as well as the soundcard setup?

 

 

Please correct me.I newbie in audio.Thanks

1. Unless you CD is exclusively a transport, it has a DAC inside, the digital output is merely there to provide you with the option of using another DAC. Both the soundcard and the CD player will usually have a set of analog output.

not a sarcastic,u ans my question....

At first, i dunno how it work...i got a sound card which there are coaxial in/out and that make me confuse i have to send in the digital signal and come out digital signal again.

After u answer my question i get the point,

The digital output on the cd player digital output which mean the signal is send out without passing built in dac.so u can use external DAC which maybe is better than built in.

For the sound card,when u select the coaxial output is as the function like cd player u select the digital output.

Meanwhile if u send the digital signal into it it will using buildin dac to convert to analogue/digital depend on what u have selected on the output.

Am i right? this is what i get from ur answer.

I'm not sure I understood everything you wrote, but it seems to be right.

 

PS: Is English you first language? If it is not, using abbreviations does not help the reader to understand.
