Any good war-themed TV mini-series?

Well there's the classic Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Boxsets of the latter came in today (into stores) and after watching the whole thing on HBO Canada... It's not that satisfying. Band of Brothers, on the other hand, costs $100. So that.

I already reserved Generation Kill and am looking for ZOS on DVD (seriously watch ZOS, it's about as violent and vulgar as you can imagine).

Any good war mini-series? Well there's The Unit, but that really is more like CSI, so.

Are you looking only for fiction? Because if you're open to nonfiction, "World at War" is spectacular.

Band of Brothers is my favorite.

have you consider Anime?

I think there are some episodes of "Victory at Sea" available for free at archive.org. It's a documentary of the naval wars during WW II. Wonderful, and its soundtrack is excellent, too.

Also over there is a free download of "Memphis Belle," a short documentary about the first B-17 crew to complete a tour of 25 missions in Europe. The USAAF brought them back to the States and sent them and the plane around the country for a few months to sell war bonds and boost morale. Only about 30 minutes, but a terrific little film. Download and enjoy it.

If you haven't seen the full, director's cut of "Das Boot," you should. I believe it was originally a miniseries on German TV, edited down to a feature. The feature is very good, but the long version is incredible. Get a copy.

I'll suggest two.

The first is a very famous Korean large-scale movie production: Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood. It's very famous and for good reason...

The second is the Korean drama Road No. 1 (you can see it on vikii with full English, Spanish, and Chinese subtitles.

Both have superb acting, decent soundtracks, and are widely available with English subtitles.

Brotherhood was a good watch

Band of Brothers is one of the best things HBO ever did, really doesn't get better than that

The Pacific was dissapointing, but what do you want, if it's from the makers from BoB, expectations just run too high. It was pretty decent, but in another league

I liked Eastwoods 'Letters from Ivo Jima' (a lot more then 'Flags of our fathers') but that's also a movie

Band of Brothers is the best easily.
