FIGHT THE BEATS HYPE (Ultrasone HFI-580/HFI 580 appreciation thread) - Page 33

You guys suck really. I registered on this forum 2 days ago looking at $30 Panasonics and now I'm ordering half of Amazon's headphone inventory.

If it makes you feel any better, I came on here about two weeks ago to find some new IEMs for my son--now two weeks later, I've ordered three pairs of IEMs for myself (want to try some out) and the HFI-580s. LOL

Yeah, if you value money. Leave this place and never look back.

I've already been hanging out at AVS too much. Head-fi is gonna be cheaper. LOL

it really depends. I mean I have upgraded in baby steps, but once you get in deep with the 2k+ amps and DACS with the 1-2K+ headphones it adds up fast.

I don't think I'm ready to go there yet. smile.gif

But I am curious. For those of you for whom the HFI-580s are your go to headphones, what are you using for IEMs? I already got in the Visang R03 (Brainwavz M2) and the bass is too muddy, bloated, and over-emphasized for me, and the mids are too forward and syrupy. I was probably expecting too much for a $60 pair of earphones. What's everyone using to get just as good a bass quality headphone in an IEM with a somewhat similar overall sound signature in terms of frequency response and clarity? Or is that not possible?

it is, but you have to look. IEM's are kind of hit or miss IMO and the money for a comparable sounding IME is probably going to be at or a higher price than the HFI-580 or what ever headphone you are comparing them to.

I just got the TF10's and they have a fairly similar sound signature, plus they are only a bit more expensive.

Thanks, guys. I'll keep trying on the IEMs. smile.gif

Meanwhile, still can't wait for the HFI-580s to break in more.

Q-40s and HFI-580s are ordered so far. I don't know which I'm more excited about. Considering letting both burn in for a day before I even try them just to get a full sense of their superiority over what I have now.

I don't know if its worth trying out the M50s since people say they have the aggressive treble of the 580s without the bass. they sure look like they're built well.

From the descriptions the Q-40s sound perfect for me (ultra deep bass with mellow chimey highs) but being familiar with M-Audio products I lack confidence in its .......... robustness? I don't know. I just know how quirky their recording interfaces can be. Computer people designing pro audio gear = quirks ahoy.

Is there a third phone I absolutely must compare these two to before I make my choice???? ($50-$150)

Why did you get both? They're so similar that it's really not worth keeping both. The M50 isn't that great of a value, and for a basshead headphone under $150 I would rather have either of the two you ordered. If you want something with less bass get the Brainwavz HM5.

BTW, I have an M-Audio keyboard that works flawlessly.

I'm going to compare them side-by-side and keep the pair I prefer. Are they really very similar? I've heard they have similar bass but dramatically different treble.

I just remember spending long hours battling M-Audio's interface drivers, but since there's no software installed in this headphone I should be OK.

BTW, do you prefer your 850s or HM5s (in general)? I'm assuming you prefer both to the Q-40s if you don't own them?
