I suppose I should have been clearer about my current inventory...

Main headphones -Home living: HE/V90. Home office: T1. Office: SR-007II. Portable: Ed8.

I've actually decided to sell the Ed8 as, as much as I was willing it to meet my needs, it doesn't quite... one of which is the giant head compatibility issue. Also, at the expense of jinxing my sale (but I can't help but be honest) I think that the actually closed nature of the phone (unlike e.g. any 'closed' Audio-Technica, Denon, etc) does compromise its sound quite a bit and it's something I wouldn't necessarily turn to at home... especially so given the ergonomic issues for my head. I also actually like the 'bubble' effect of S-Logic for portable use since it acts to separate the musical soundstage from ambient sounds, but once again it's not something I'd prefer at home.

Between the Orpheus and the Omega, you can probably see why the T1 tends to stick out. It's not that I outright dislike the Beyers but the signature doesn't really get me involved, and neither do they 'disappear' like the HD650 used to, when I decide to sit down properly at the computer (as much as that is the case since I'm doing something else) and listen. Most of the time I'm wearing the MMX 300 or G35 headsets when I'm at the computers since I'm skyping, etc and I make the swap to the T1's when actually listening.

See my comments re: AH-D5000/7000. If anything, too agreeable... sonic 'fancy junk food' tongue.gif

I'm afraid that the prognosis is poor.

I own both and really enjoy both, but I still think that the T1s are the best all rounders I've heard/owned. YMMV of course.

it sounds to me like u know the answer: 650s... its clear you like their sound - maybe a bit too caught up in the moar $$$ = better experience...

i quite liked the lcd-2s at a recent meet, but not paying that kinda dime for it and then hooking it up to a balanced amp etc...

650s will also work on a lot more equipment than 600z beyers prolly... even tho the t1s are surprisingly sensitive.... I thought they're a clear upgrade on the 880 sound, but can appreciate both.... not enuff to seriously contemplate $1.4k on one pair of phones tho...

You'd be surprised regarding the Beyers... certainly in terms of the sort of stuff I drive phones out of.  The T1's are also fairly efficient (which is, I guess, the point of the Tesla), so it's only really the load that is an issue, and even then I'm not powering them out of iPods tongue.gif

I think what I'll do is to buy an HD650 again anyway and see how I get on. And thereafter if I'm spending far more time with the Senn than the Beyer, it's probably time for the T1 to go.

The only one I am seriously considering is the JVC Victor DX1000 (felt like a better HD650, closed cans to boot) but I want to listen to the LCD-2 before pulling the trigger. And who knows by the time I'm ready Sennheiser will deliver the HD850 I'm dreaming of...

I'm kind of surprised you found the O2II not to your taste. Among all the high-enders I've had, the Orpheus excepted, the Stax are the most uber-HD650-like. OK, so it's not an exact tone+lift but it is pretty close IMO... although TBH, the gap in price is not the sanest justification given the level of improvement afforded.

Problem for me with the Omega though is simply that it's heavy and ungainly in home office casual use - even more so than the T1 due to it's suspension arrangement, the need to tape down the pad and also the ribbon cable.

op: if you like the HD650 so much, try out the LCD-2... very similar sound signature and not T1esque at all. That means they're not too bright or overly detailed.. if that's what you like. However, they are less comfy than the T1s. More weight and bigger.

As mentioned before, practical issues exclude them.
