Went over to digikey because I wanted to experiment with a couple opamps for my cmoy.  I really wanted to pick up the AD8620, but it seems its only available as a surface mount component, not through hole.  anyone know where to find one of these?

It's only available in soic package.

Only comes in SOIC.  Although I do know of a certain company that repackages components.  It'd probably cost you anywhere between $300 and $3000, but they will put your AD8620 in a beautiful ceramic dip package.

You have to mount it on a SOIC to DIP adapter like this.

Well that sucks. And with the new website here, seaching the op amp threads is hardly fun. Any quick recomendations for a dual op amp that runs on one 9v battery with a gain
around 3?

OPA2227 sounds pretty good and is easy to work with.

LT1364 sounds amazing but is harder to work with as it is a bi-polar

not a jfet input.

Theres also the good old OPA2134...

I almost forgot LT1028...it's also available in DIP

Edit: Opps, my bad...LT1028 is just a single, I think you are looking for just duals..?

I used to solder AD8610/20s to Brown Dog adapters and sell them, but I think I killed the market by making my Surface Mount Soldering Techniques video. wink.gif

Have you watched it?  You, too, can do this.

I was trying to stick with dual chips.  It seems easier, and takes up less room.  is there an advantage to the two single chips?  I mostly wanted to try the ad8620 because tangent recommended it as one of the best for a basic cmoy.  I have a OPA2132 installed now, and its a bit flabby in the bass, and a little covered in the treble.  I'm going to look into the suggestions thus far though.
