Will my Audio GD FUN take third party opamps?

Do all opamps use the same socketed interface?

Can I use any opamp with the FUN?

Are there that are far better than the ones AGD offers?

In case you haven't heard of them - the product page for the AGD opamps:

Hmm ... it looks like your link goes to a page of discrete opamps.  Those are very special animals and may or may not have the same voltage and current characteristics of many opamps.  I can't tell you about their discrete opamps - all of them will be a proprietary device that may or may not be well-documented.

Monolithic opamps (IC's) are like any other active electronic device.  There are certain current and voltage characteristics for each opamp - even plug-in characteristics, as well.  Many opamps are DIP-8, but they may be dual channel stereo or just single channel.  They may be SOIC-8 instead of DIP-8, in which case they are normally soldered directly to the PCB, or there are adpaters available that will allow you to plug them in as a DIP-8.  Further, voltage characteristics may be entirely different - one opamp may need +or- 5V as an absolute maximum, another may be able to take up to +or-18V.  Some may have burst current capability that requires a particular PCB layout.  Others may be so fast in terms of MHz that you need special PCB compensated parts to keep the opamp from oscillating.

There are several opamps that seem to fit in well with +or-12V circuits and are DIP-8, or at least perform OK with an adapter.  Probably the first place to look is Tangent's excellent Notes on Audio Opamps page -

Thanks for the thorough reply.  beerchug.gif

Took a look at that link...and the whole affair looks to be way over my head.    I wouldn't know how to gauge voltage characteristics or determine if the opamps would be compatible with the FUN.
