Russ Andrews forced to withdraw a claim about power cables.

The ASA (Advertising Standards Agency) have finally ruled against Russ Andrews quite a long and drawn out dispute over claims of RFI rejection on their mains cables and how that makes them different. RA had appealed but that appeal has now been rejected.

Simple article here

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/01/13/russ_accessories/

the original ruling here

http://www.asa.org.uk/ASA-action/Adjudications/2008/3/Russ-Andrews-Accessories-Ltd/TF_ADJ_44177.aspx

and basically RA are “not to imply that RFI from mains electricity was a perceptible problem”.

So that could have a big impact on cables makers making scientific sounding claims and then not linking such to proof of audibility.

Well!! I do own a Russ Andrews mains adapter, but it was only £40. Even so, can anyone really tell a great difference from using a filtered mains adapter or expensive power chord..? or is it all psychological?

R Andrews equipment is very expensive, are they just cashing in on us? because lets face it us audiophiles pay out lots of money in our quest for the perfect sound. If you read an advert in a respected magazine that a £1000 plus cable will improve your sound and you have that kind of money will you fork out?

I own three mains extensions (two Yello and one Blu) and a Silencer plug in mains conditioner from RA. I was never convinced about the mains extensions but the Silencer I am sure works as I can hear background hiss reducing when it is plugged in. Thankfully all weer boughtt in sales years ago and nothing for more than £20.
