Hi guys

Basically use to well into my audio and wouldnt say im an audiophile but i followed it,

Its been years now and ive just reformated my computer, went to set up my audio again and thought wonder what everyone is doing now,

My main question is What is the best sampling rate for mp3s and FLAC (mainly flac)

My setup consists of...

Foobar V.0.9.5.5

http://img207.imageshack.us/i/jpgeu.jpg/

Asio Selected on the Output

In XFI im using audio creation mode, Bit matched playback but not sure what sampling rate (Im thinking 96 TBH)

Also..

I used a guide by DJ Big Bear from Overlocked.net i have the link but not sure if i can post it, in the plugin section he uses,

Advanced limiter ?????

Resampler ???? (You can resample to any sampling rate from 44.1 to 96) but isnt resampling bad

Equalizer - Pointless

Noise sharpening - Good!

Im using 2.1 speaker setup cause headphones is bad,

Again my basic question is What is the best sampling rate for mp3s and FLAC (mainly flac)

But what are people using now a days for software etc also my card is Creative Xfi Music

Hope you can help

Alan

ALSO WHAT IS SPDIF?!?!

Any particular reason why you're using such a old version of foobar? I think it's best to turn off the dsp. Use the asio plugin and it'll automaticly change the sample rate to what your music is. Spdif is a optical connection. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spdif

The reason is i have an external hardrive with all my backup stuff on and thats where all my foobar stuff is, What is DSP sorry?

Im all for getting a new version but last time i tried that all my components wouldnt run on the newer version and i dont know where to find them

by DSP do you mean DSP Delta - Noise sharpening?

I use the Asio component as shown on the screenie and i use Bit match playback on ACM.

But it asks me what sample rate to choose and i have no clue everywhere ive looked i just get confused :S

EDIT : I understand what you mean about DSP, how do you turn it off completely then? Ive disabled noise sharpening for now :)

REEDIT: I was wondering why i wasnt getting reply's and relised its very early morning in American, in from UK ha my bad!

As usual in audio opinions differ but in general it is recommended to play everything at its native sample rate. In case of mp3 amd FLAC this is 44.1 kHz most of the time.

Sample rate conversion is not a trivial matter especially when by not a natural number.

A couple of examples what SRC does can he found here: http://www.thewelltemperedcomputer.com/KB/SRC.htm

SPDIF is a digital connection.

It can be done over coax or optical (Toslink)
