Hip Hop and the HD650, anyone try it out ?

I thought I might have lost hope in my HD650's ... I experienced the infamous "Veil" that 80% of the people here talk about.

I listen to A LOT of variety. So I was throwing everything at them. No luck, Until, I stumbled upon my hip hop collection.

The "Veil" character of the HD650's combined with their dark smoky flavor actually complemented the music quite well.

Three six mafia ( anything by them or Juicy J ), sounds great and any Tupac songs.

I think this type of music works well with the HD650's is because the music itself is dark ( not lyric wise ) but in style and instrument. Theres lots of bass, whether its heavy and in your face or in the back acting ambient.

Anyways, im too focused on the music to explain and do a thorough type up.

I'm interested to hear back from anyone that listens to this type of music ( or anything similar ) with their HD650's

Lets hear it !

Wow , its awesome to hear from someone with audiophile grade headphones listening to something like "late night tip".

Your right, they ARE capable of bass (but the bass doesn't show itself when it counts, with all genres, imo).

i'm not a rap or hip hop fan at all, but i remember playing it in my car back in my bass head days, and i figured i'd try it on the HD650's to see how well it hit the low notes. it's one of my bass check songs.

i'm mostly into rock and metal, mostly progressive rock and metal, but i do however listen to some trip hop like Massive Attack and Tricky quite often, and sometimes some downtempto chill music like Morcheeba and Zero 7 as well. i listen to a decent variety of stuff. i appreciate all music for what it is, even if it isn't really my style.

Late Night Tip... ROFL that song is hilarious. Triple 6.

Gorillaz sounds good.  I like the two Public Enemy albums I own, too.  I'm not much of a hip-hop kinda guy.  Club stuff sounds good on the HD650, imho.  I listen to stuff like New Order, Kylie, etc., and I like the way it sounds.

I just like music, though, and I like all my headphones, so I'm probably not the best critic.

I do notice that the bass on the HD650 is more "polite" than the bass on my D2000s, for sure.  It lacks impact, not so much extension.  I just noticed this on track #5 of Public Enemy's "Apocalypse 91...The Enemy Strikes Black."  Of course, that is comparing a D2000 strongpoint with a minor HD650 shortcoming...

maybe they are capable of bass but they're tooo slow for hip hop

Too slow? Hip hop generally has a slow tempo though. What do you mean?
