Any thoughts on this review? The headphone amp is based on the XR-2.

I have been waiting for this review since I noticed it 'coming soon' at 'Positivefeedback'. And especially since Dick Olsher of 'Enjoy the Music.com' raved about it putting $5000. solid-state preamps to shame. I love reading differing opinions.

Just what 5000$ preamps exactly did he say it put to shame?

Thats exactly the question I was asked any time I mentioned the statement. I think I should try to e-mail Olsher and ask because he did not specify. I'll tell him I have received prolonged bloody beatings for repeating this lofty proclamation.

It is always good to read differing opinions. If everyone said that they just loved the XR2 I would be a bit concerned. I love mine and so do most of the other reviewers and users. I like that the reviewer admits that there may be some synergy issues, which seems to be the case, IMO.

BTW,I see that he uses the Anthem Pre-1 as a phono stage. This is one of the phono amps that I have never liked. I found it slow, sloppy and generally bloated. It really sounded like it was covered in a thick layer of molasses. If he likes the Anthem, there is very little chance he would like the XR2. I'll admit that I have yet to hear a tube-regulated phono stage that I've liked much.
