The demo must be substantially shorter, given that it takes weeks for me to finish a game, sometimes longer.

I was a huge civ3/4 fan, spent many (many) hours playing each. I always found civ4 to be quite challenging on the higher up levels, and it took be more than a year (on and off play) to finally win a match on deity (space race ftw!).
Civ5 took me a month to finish a game on deity... I didn't even bother with a lot of the difficulty levels. The AI is atrocious, I won by domination, which I thought was near impossible on civ4.It doesn't try to invade your area if you land on its', so all you have to do is pick a corner near some water, take their city, put down a fort, and wait for the AI to throw all of it's units at your fort while you pick them off easily. Then walk across pillaging their cities...
Lots of potential with civ5, but it feels rushed and unfinished. The combat changes are great, city states are interesting, limited resources makes sense, but then city management is meh.
Though it was fun for the first week, until I started paying attention to things more. Also it takes a ridiculously long time to finish a turn, even on a ssd it's slow. Civ4 was much better optimized.
I think Civ5 was designed to run faster - I do agree it does not take as long to finish a game. This might be for the better, I have not decided yet.
I have the money to place my order through Vavle Steam today. I think that I am going to get it.
I just bought it. I am downloading my copy of the game right now. I cannot wait to play this game. It is so addictive and fun.
I still cannot get Civilization 5 to play in Microsoft DirectX 10.1 mode. I do not understand why. I may need to consult the official forums for answers. This game is a lot of fun to play. I chose the American civilization and I selected the marathon mode. There are a lot more turns available than the demo version. Overall, I am happy with my purchase and I look forward to playing this game more often.
