Have you tried to increase the depth of ear cups with cotton balls , or rope ? Obvious difference to me, and easy to do.

If you have already a too big head, you might not do it though (will increase clamping force, and cracking risk)

I've just put a QTip curved inside the earpad at the bottom. I noticed a difference from the first week of use.
I just opened them up again and did what I did to my SRH440, which is simply taking a strip of 3 toilet paper, fold it into a rectangle, and then stuff it against the back wall inside the earcup. This somehow adds more isolation, which in turn results in slightly more bass or bass that you could hear better in a quieter environment. I am using the SRH940 as I type this, I'm outside on a boat, and it indeed does work even at my usual listening volume on the Sansa Clip Zip.
Perhaps I should just stuff the entire earcup with tissues to see if I can fully isolate noise outside.

I would have thought that most the sonic changes  comes from the distance of ear to driver,
I didn't think of added isolation.

Yeah when you work on a boat with two +1,000HP engines under your feet, you do crazy stuff to try and block out the noise. I leared about isolation from my Sennheiser 201s. Those isolate so poorly because the platic wall is thin. Stuffing the entire inside with toilet paper helped block outside noise. The 201S doesn't have bass to begin with, but I could at least enjoy it better while at work.
I have also tried using molding clay against the inner wall. Massive fail because clay is heavy. I took it out right away.
My next experiment is to use Elmers glue to make the inner wall a few millimeters thicker and see how it isolates. That kind of glue is very light, it forms a smooth surface when dry if laying flat, and also is easily removeable if it doesn't work. Will do so in about a week when I'm home.

*edit just stuffed each earcup with another three piece folded toilet paper. It's not completly full yet. Yep, even more isolation and the bass sounds a lot like I am at home or in a quieter environment. I think one more stuffing will do the trick.

I have just start tested my srh940, wow what a sound.. And after the rope-mod it's even better..
I just love this headphone.

An update after a few hours: stuffing the inside with more toilet paper did change the sound. Now the soundstage has moved in closer together. I listen to the Sansa Zip Clip at the same volume all the time, and there is now slightly more bass and the lows have gotten more noticable, which is great. It's the same tight bass that it already has, but louder.

Can anyone else bored enough test this out?

I gotta question, how do the highs combare to the amperior? Which one is more sibilant. Also, which one is more "fun" and "warm" and "upfront?"

I  have the hd25 which is very similar to amperior.

The srh940 has better highs.

I  found the srh940 a bit aggressive with highs at begin ,  until I  played with headband position, and then later modded it.

 

The hd25 sounds fun at begin, but I  found the fun to become  weak with time,  because it's basically mid bass emphasis to compensate limited extension on low bass.
Also the hd25 put vocals more in your face,  you might get them, if it's what you are looking for.

I have a Shure SRH940 and i plan to buy an Ibasso D7. What is your feedback about this couple Headphone/DAC-amplifier?

Do you know other DAC-amplifier in same range price better than Ibasso D7? (for the Shure SRH940)

I got a positive experience with xonar stx, but now I  don't know how it compares with the ibasso you want.

Neither the SRH940 nor the Amperior have sibilance issues, although they are both pretty bright. The Amperior is more in your face due to the smaller soundstage and seems a little less detailed, once again on account of the soundstage. The Amperior has more bass and is therefore technically warmer than the SRH940, although I would still not call it a warm headphone (compared to other truly warm headphones like the HD650). I'd say that the Amperior has a more neutral sound than the SRH940, which is brighter.
