For Sale:
SOLD: Mapletree Ear+ HD Headphone Amp

Will Ship To: USA, Canada

It's a sad, sad day... for you see, I've decided to sell my Mapletree Ear+ HD amp.

I very nearly kept this amp for the sole purpose of using it to push my RS-1s -- the combo is that good. It's the finest Grado amp I've ever used, and it's pretty awesome with Beyer T1s as well. The Ear+ HD is almost identical sonically to my Mapletree Super II, despite the Super II easily being the more expensive of the two.

There are a few things about this particular amp you should know. I purchased it from a longtime HeadFi user who had originally built it from a kit. He personally modded the amp to use a PDPS (or "pseudo dual power supply"), the upgrade that was all the rage a while back and has since become a standard feature on Woo Audio amps. Having never heard an Ear+ HD without this mod, I cannot tell you what effect it had on the sound quality -- I can only tell you that it sounds damned good. As a result of the mod, there are two rows of black components (capacitors? please see photo) in the amp that are attached to the chassis via some very stout double-sided tape. When I originally received the amp, one of the components had become detached from the tape and needed to be pressed back in place. It's stayed there ever since. I don't consider this to be a big deal, as it was apparently a shipping-related issue that has never recurred, but it's something I think you need to be aware of before you decide to purchase this amp.

In addition, there are some very minor cosmetic considerations. The wood side panels have never been finished, and as such have become somewhat dulled. You could very easily finish them as you see fit or just leave them -- the unfinished wood has never bothered me. Also, the Mapletree name plate on the top of the amp has worn away slightly -- the result of some overly ambitious cleaning on my part. Again, please check the photos to ensure these little details are things you can live with.

My asking price is a very reasonable $400 shipped (USA and Canada only) and including PayPal fees. You'll receive the amp itself plus the tubes I originally got with it -- two Zenith-branded 12B4As and one Sovtek 5751. As a tube-roller's bonus, at my asking price, I'll include a very nice NOS Tung-Sol 12AX7 so you can appreciate the subtle differences between the two types of preamp tubes. Please let me know via PM if you're interested in taking this good friend of mine into your home, and thanks!

^Seal the deal man.  The purchase opportunity for this amp at this price is very rare indeed. He's a stand up guy to boot.  Might as well get the gilmore lite to have the best of both worlds.  biggrin.gif
