New Beyer DT1350
May 26, 2015 at 2:30 AM Post #3,886 of 4,010
With my recent interest in on-ear portables, I've decided to revisit DT1350. I've been addicted to HD25, Amperior these last few weeks. Although I've owned DT1350 once before, the pair I had really didn't sound anything like people describe. For this reason, I've taken on another pair to get some closure on the mystery.

I'll get some again one day. It's ordained :)

The original pair I had sounded quite dark with almost no bass, no matter what way I adjusted the cups, "the sweet spot" etc.

In the end I moved them on with no real conclusion why, I'd rather just forget about it.

How did you pair sound Wayne. What kind of tonality?

No bass?? Yeah something was definitely wrong there. The bass is my favorite aspect of the 1350s sound sig. Deep and CLEAN.

Yup, that's how they sounded. I believe we pushed a couple of pages way back containing very similar responses to the above posts. This is why I'm going in again, down 1350 lane.

Should know later in the week.

Yup, the bass was really what made them hard to return. Seemed like excellent extension into sub-bass land without any big mid-bass hump to muddy the mids. Clean, detailed bass with good decay. The highs were of the more laid back variety which made for nice long non-fatiguing listening sessions. I really loved the signature and favoured it over the T51P's by a large margin (even though the T51P's are quite good). Ultimately I returned the DT1350's within the return period due to comfort, but I've always kind of regretted it.

I dunno Wayne. I've had the 1350 for about a day and I can confirm the first pair probably weren't faulty. I'm getting the same absence of bass (unless) I push them hard onto my ears, same with mids.

Like the bass is obviously unsealed and hollow. It sounds kind of like pulling the cups lightly away from your ears. (the entire sound) I'm really beginning to think I have some obscure human fitting / sealing error with these Beyers.

Maybe I should lube the earpads up with Vaseline. :p I'm going to keep at it though.

I recall when reading up on them that positioning and fit was uber-important with them and that a lot of people had issues with that. So maybe that's what's up here. I fortunately didn't have that problem (they were just too uncomfortable for me to wear for any length of time).

Sounds very much like a seal issue to me.
The pads do get a bit softer with usage (had two sets of pads, each took about two weeks of almost daily usage). Plus the usual tip: wear them a bit more back than normal. This graphic by @Tuntun explains it very well:

I know its been said before. But I'll mention it again...

Slide the ear cups back on the ears, a few millimeters at a time.  And then the bass should start sounding better.  It may even seem to feel a bit weird, thou not uncomfortable.  I also separate the headband, almost completely.  That also seems to seal the cups better for me...

Thanks Jeff. It just doesn't work for me mate, I'm plainly going to sell them.

I could drop a few random sentences about how I feel towards DT1350 and probably razz up the the thread a fair bit.

(because I think they sound average mate)

Instead, I'm going back to my HD25 and Amperior.

No harm done here. Enjoy your DT1350 guys!

I've never hated a headphone as much as I hate the Amperiors lol...just goes to show that we all have different tastes!

Love my DT1350s and my HD25s, go figure....

The HD25 are far more forgiving, both on the head and with less then ideal recordings.

But thanks to both, I've never felt I needed to jump into in ear monitors.  And those would cost a mint....

....I wonder if the the T51s would fit better

Yes, clamping force of T51 is little bit smaller than DT1350s. Got HD25-1 and DT1350, both symmetric recabled, love them the same.
