Spoilered for size (Click to show)

Unfortunately, I do not know his handle here in headfi.  We have a small regional audiophile group where he moonlights as a cable guy.  Recently, he's done some good work (subjective) for me.

Below, the mannequin heads made of fiber glass, were also done by the same guy.  We call him Arbi.

Here - DT1350 opened back cups.  They sound fantastic.

I hadn't noticed this earlier, hot damn!

Hey guys. Pressed for time. Getting on a plane and need to decide. Dt1350 or t51p? I like etymotic er4s and hd600's. I have a jds labs C5 that I travel with. I like size and the good reviews of these two headphones, but can't decide. Got set up an eBay snipe before the flight.

It's tough to decide for you since personal preferences and tolerances come into play. But for me, even though I preferred the SQ of the DT1350's over the T51P's, the T51P's are still very good and I would probably go for them due the much greater comfort that I got with them (others don't have comfort problems with the dt1350's though, so ymmv).

I'm using the best of two worlds: the dt1350 for the amazing sound quality with the t51p ear pads (that I bought from Beyerdynamic site) for the improved comfort.

Sounds like you prefer a neutral sound signature so go with the dt1350. Hopefully it's the facelift version.

So the consensus is the 1350 sounds better? I am optimistic about the clamping pressure. Generally I'm fine with that.

It's debated.

I believe so, yes.

Others prefer the slightly elevated (albeit in my opinion, boomier) bass of the T51p.

At our last headphone meetup, the 51p won, 3-2.  I was on the 1350 side.

Yup, I found the mid bass of the 51p to be boomier at times as well. Bass of the 1350 on the other hand was pretty much perfection to my ears.

Hi,dt1350 for me every time with the caveat that it does genuinley take time for those pads to mould to the shape of your ears though!
I have the facelift versions and love them to pieces..the split headband is a major benefit over the t51 s one piece headband when reclining/snoozing on an aircraft as i find the fit to be more secure.smily_headphones1.gif and splitting the headband allows you to vary the clamping pressure!
I agree with previous poster about sq and bass being better on dt1350.

It sure is. Puts a smile on my face every time. Not many headphones that get such great depth AND keep it that clean and tight. I have no tolerance for bloaty, boomy bass.

To me: most definitely. The T51 is nice and all, but tuned more to a consumers taste while I prefer a more neutral signature.

Very true. For me it was about 2 weeks of daily use with both sets of pads I had (so far).

Fascinating is a perfect way to describe it...whenevar i hear a new piece of music that I like my first thought is "I wonder how the dt1350s would handle this?" smily_headphones1.gif

I bought and sold the T51p, the sound and fit wasn't to my liking....; the build quality and pads though were exceptional.  I read many reviews about T51p and DT1350, I noticed the DT1350 had a facelift version, great, purchase made. In my opinion the 1350 is better looking than the T51 and the only negative would be 1350 stock pads. As soon as I swapped out the pads to T51p comfort and sound improved.
