For the portability, price range, and personal tastes there really are none better.

To be honest, I say it's not worth it unless you have a line out. I have a cowon d3, which should have equal or better sq than S9, and double amping does not help. Sure, it's cleaner than double amping with a ipod, but double amping worsens the clarity and detail. But with a proper line out or audio out(ie. android or good dap), it is worth it to get a good portable amp/dac. For me, Sony E series>Fiio LOD>Leckerton UHA-6S.MKII pairs well with DT1350.

I just had yet another example of the 1350s brilliance that completely blew my mind...

I realized that if you're an HBO subscriber, you have access to pretty much all their content online through their HBO-GO app. I have been wanting to watch Game of Thrones since many of my friends have spoken so highly of it, and instead of dropping $40 on the season 1 blurays, I'm going to just watch it on my Kindle Fire. Within the few minutes of episode one, I was floored at how alive this soundtrack sounded with the 1350s. I had noises surrounding me in space in a 360 degree field of sound and with incredible detail. This show is a match made in heaven for these headphones, and even if you're not interested in the show, I highly recommend firing up one of the episodes just to get a taste of how amazing this sound is.

Can't wait for episode 4!

The Kindle has a Wolfson chip - how is the power of the headphone output? Do you get good volume? I have a Kindle Fire HD 7" but haven't used it with headphones - the little stereo speakers are pretty decent for the size, though.

Thanks for that info...I was actually coming back to edit my post to see if anyone knew what DAC the Fire used, cause with either my Grado PS500s or my 1350s, the sound is just ridiculous! I'm glad to know it's a Wolfson, cause I've been very close to upgrading the DAC in my main rig, and I'm pretty set on getting Jan's DACCORD piece to match my Meier Jazz. You confirming it's a wolfson chip just further piques my interest, cause for whatever reason the Wolfson chips always sound great to my ears. I was using a LOD cable with my iPod straight into a tube preamp for a good while, and the sound was surprisingly good. The iPod also had a Wolfson chip...those folks seem to know what they're doing.

As for volume, I can get a good listening volume with the 1350s at about 50%, but I prefer to listen to something like Game of Thrones at closer to 80%. That Fire HD you have looks beautiful...if it has the same or better in terms of the headphone output, you'll love the audio quality. I'm truly amazed at how well this show sounds...this is the first time I've heard the 1350s pull off a sound field like this...usually they're about average in terms of sound stage, but with this show it's significantly expanded and nearly completely enveloping...remarkable!

Is that the first generation Kindle Fire you are are talking about, Focker? BestBuy has refurbs on sale with their Memorial Day coupons through their clearance outlet site (not the main site): https://clearance.bestbuy.com/static/memorialsale

Might be worth picking up for the audio quality. I like the Wolfson DAC on my Note 2 phone smily_headphones1.gif

Hmmm...we bought it at Christmas in 2011, so not sure which version that is, in all honesty. I remember posting in the Grado thread how awesome the sound was with my PS500s, but now Im thinking it's the Kindle itself that is the most impressive aspect of this, not so much the Grados lol.

Glad to know you're also having good results with the Wolfson chip...I often go back and forth about whether a DAC can make any difference, but it does seem there is a loose correlation here between the gear I think sounds best and the Wolfson...hopefully you guys can confirm that you're also hearing a nice presentation out of the kindle when some of you get a chance to fire it up with easy-to-drive headphones. I'm going to fire up a few more movies and shows, as well, to see if it carries over to other media.

That's probably the original Kindle Fire. Hmmm...Now I'm really tempted. Why do I read on this website? LOL

I just had my non-audiophile, "you're crazy to spend that much money on audio gear!" lady friend/roomie listen to the first several mins of Game of Thrones S1/Ep1....it's the part where the night watch people are trying to flee from the white walkers...the look on her face was priceless! She asked me if she can use my headphones to listen with her Kindle :)

I did a lot of demoing and had a hard time finding headphones that I wouldn't just listen to my Grados instead. That's how I found the DT1350s and was delighted to have a portable set. I should have known they would be good for a Grado fan when I saw you posting about them biggrin.gif

haha, yeah I'm definitely a self-admitted Beyer/Grado guy...I don't know why, but the way these two brands seem to complement each other is very satisfying to me. I wasn't all that interested in the 1350s last year when I bought them, I just picked them up on a whim...to this day Im still amazed at how great they sound. One of these days I'll venture into the dark side of things and pick up something like an Audeze LCD-2, but typically I like phones that are on the brighter side of neutral. I don't play the fanboy game, so that's why I'm always nosy about what else you guys are auditioning and buying to add to your collections :)  But as far as the 1350s go, honestly, I don't know what else I could possibly ask for out of a portable phone, you know? I used to get frustrated watching the clock at work on a slow day, or gettign stuck in a long line at the bank, or sitting in traffic, etc, etc, but as long as I have my iPhone and my 1350s with me, I could sit in a line all day long and be perfectly happy!
