Do they sound okay directly through an iPod Touch, or are they majorly underutilised without a decent amp? I have a Fiio E6 amp which I feel is pretty useless for my HD449. If my iPod isn't enough then I hope my E6 improves it. Has anyone tried E6 with these Beyers? If they aren't good enough then I'll have to hunt for a more serious amp... *wallet cries

I have the e6 and I would say it is adequate and does give the 1350s a boost (over unamped) somewhat. But with my e17 these are on another level. So I would def invest in a better amp once you have the funds.

Beats?! What about vModa m80 or Amperiors? I have all three and both are better than the dt1350 unamped. They just sound livelier and more dynamic to me.

I did not recommend Beats -- to the contrary.

To my taste neither the M80 nor the HD25 (don't know the Amperior personally) are worthy contenders: the M80 is much too dark and the HD25 misses deep bass and has more aggressive treble (though I use them for DJing where both traits are welcome for beatmatching). I did not see these differences change with an amp (Leckerton as well as Lake People), I prefer the DT1350 both with and without amping.

Thanks everyone for the feedback about amping!

I'll definitely go for a more serious amp in the future.

For now I just went for the Sony MDR-1Rs which I understand is not reference like the DT1350, but I was worried about soundstage. Also, some people mentioned a wierd, closed, unrealistic plastic timbre which was a real turn off for me.

It seems that the Sony's are more of a 'fun' headphone and I'm desparate for its soundstage and colour to (hopefully?) compensate for my stupidly compressed loudness-war music which I get so fatigued by. I was afraid that the closed nature of the Beyers might reveal that jarring guitar tone even more, where at least the sony's could possibly 'colour it away' a bit. I figured it was too risky to get the DTs.

Still interested in getting one in the future but I'll see if I like the 1Rs for now :)

By the way the reason why I want soundstage is because I mainly listen to Nightwish, and although I long to hear the epic orchestras with absolute clarity, I don't think it's worth it if it means it could worsen the compression. eughhh. Rather not hear all that stuff lol.

Maybe I'll get the Beyers for my other music and I'll keep the MDRs to colour over Nightwish :p

Nightwish gs1000.gif !!!

And I know what you mean ;) They are really great but why can't they have better records TT

used to carry an ipod touch, a portable amp, a phone, a wallet and a key chain with me all the time.

Now, iphone, DT1350, wallet, and key.

My pants just dont have enough pockets for a portable amp :( plus the LOD cable.

There's is no harm in getting the mdr-r1 if you know what you are doing. Very comfortable and good looking too. I think soundstage has become less important for me over time - it used to a big deal for the first 2-3 years I was on headfi, but now I focus on neutral response and dynamics more.

The DT1350 does not need an amp, but my RSA Protector certainly improves on the SQ. I've had mine re-terminated into balanced mode and I could definitely hear the improvements. It was definitely worth the upgrade.

That is a great app. I have had it for a while and used it with ER-4S.

For some reason I always and up using the normal iPod player after a while though.

Thanks for mentioning this app! Never heard of it before and like it very much with the DT1350. Much better than the app I used before (Dirac).

I think the DT1350 really need amplification to shine. While I use them almost daily with my iPhone 5, it's a fact that they improve greatly with my amps (Corda 3Move and Concerto). Way better soundstage and more slam in the bass.

Always happy to help a fellow Head-Fi'er out :)
