One a side note, i use my dt1350's unamped. Never tried amping but i do find some differences. On my galaxy with voodoo, there's a good amount of mid bass but on the iPod they are gone. I think I'm gonna get nwvguy's objective 2. Any thoughts guys? Will the soundstage improve?Good amp, but how would it help what you're lacking with your ipod? It's definitely not something you'd want to carry around with you.

As per recent comments, was listening to this straight out of my crappy iphone 3gs the other day and blown away by how good the DT1350s can still sound. A little bit less bass quantity/clarity than through my E17 or my desktop setup perhaps, but otherwise detail and separation in general really nice.
I remember using my Pro900s straight out of the iPhone and they just fall apart; a terrible muddy mess down low.
They also isolate sensationally well on public transport. With volume 75% and above out of the iphone I couldn't hear a thing around me, barely even extremely loud tram-driver announcements.
Right now listening straight out of my Audioengine D1 + Foobar, and there is definitely an improvement over a portable device, but its not massive. Just bass improvement really, listening to a Techno/House DJ mix and the kick+sub are earth shaking! More so than from my HE-400, probably the closed VS open thing.
I was weighing up buying a new phone (Galaxy s3) and the new Fiio E07k to run via usb-OTG (as sadly the E17 won't work that way, too much power draw), but I don't think its necessary at all with the DT1350s. Instead ordered a $30 Sansa Clip+ and that's probably all I'll need.
Now, QUESTION:
What cans (by any manufacturer) come closest to the DT1350s in signature and detail, if price were no object? Preferably closed-back over-the-ear ones? (comfortable for long listening sessions) People have been saying they're almost mini-T1s, but is this true? Heard that the T1s are a bit bass-shy as per most of the other Tesla models..
The reason is, I'm probably going to move overseas in just under a year (from Australia to Canada), so may sell HE400s and some desktop stuff, and instead of having a separate listening room/studio where open can's are fine, I'll probably be sharing just the 1 room with my partner. No doubt sound bleed from an open pair like HE400 would drive her nuts, as would the lack of isolation from them for me.

I wouldn't know from experience, but Mad Dog modified Fostex T50rp seem to fit your bill

Yup! ^_^
And Dan, the guy who does the mod, is active on Head-Fi and supposedly has stupidly good customer service. I've been pining over DT1350 and MadDog with Dog Pads for a while now, following both threads.

Quote:Interesting! Just when I thought I had headphones to cover all my needs and wants... Lol, as if that will ever happen! I might have to do some reading on those too then.
D7000s are also of interest but ridiculously priced 2nd hand now that discontinued, plus they don't have great isolation and not sure how 'neutral' not that I'm too fussed about that.
The new Sony MDR-1Rs are intriguing; very stylish, apparently super comfortable with good sound and isolation, also for $300. (EDIT: actually $250 new from Korea on ebay)

Maybe take a look at the T5p... I find their sound signature to be like the DT1350, but with much more detail. Comfort is very good, can be driven directly from mobile devices but scale well with a good amp. Closed btw.
I've never heard the T1s (not interested in open headphones due to my use cases), but there is quite a difference in resolution between the DT1350 and the T5p. Both honor their price point so to say ;-)

Money no object, I believe Skylab's favorite closed headphones are the Ultrasone Edition 8, but I've never heard them.

FWIW, I've owned the Ed. 8LEs at the same time as my W3000s...and I still own my W3000s.
