Need help on deciding which headset to buy, between the ATH-AD700 vs the M50, and soundcard choice?

Hi, basically, I would just like to know the headphone/soundcard combo I should be buying for my computer. I would use them for Music(50%)/gaming(50%) and maybe some movies. After a week of research, I am focusing more the the AD700's, reviews say it will give an amazing listening experience in gaming as well as music.

However the "lack of bass" is starting to make me think about getting the ATH-m50's, but I don't know if they will have much more bass. I can live with less bass though, as long as it is accurate , tight, and punchy. I really don't want to lose the soundstage of the Ad700's. I listen to a wide variety of music, from dubstep to Pink floyd, I enjoy everything.

This brings me to my next question, the soundcard. I am now looking at the Auzentech Forte, for it's amazing gaming capabilities and good music reproduction too. but, I don't know if I really need a headphone amp with the AD700's, what do you think? The STX is a bit out of budget, so then comes the DX, with no headphone amp, and supposedly bad for gaming.

The only problem with the Auzen is the availability, I can't find it anywhere that ships to Canada... So I don't know if I really need it... If I don't enable Alchemyy with this soundcard, will it still give a good and accurate sound for gaming, and is this x-fi card suitable for a good music experience? And even if here is no magnetic shielding, there won't be any static right?

So there it is, guys. What do you think I should buy, and from what stores that ship to Canada with good deals?

I own the m50's and they're more leaning towards studio use with an accurate sound for monitoring, although they are very versatile and that's why they are so popular. I havent heard the ad700's however I did do some research on them some time ago and they probably gonna give you a bigger soundstage for gaming and I think it was "what hifi" that claimed they were bass heavy.

You couldn't have picked two different headphones. 50% gaming, then you don't want the M50. Not enough soundstage for gaming and closed phones get hot after a while. You really should be looking at the HD555 or one of the Beyers. The AD700 is popular for gaming, not as much for music listening. The 555 will get a little more bass impact without sacrificing soundstage. Neither is good for Dub IMO. Beyers will get you soundstage and good quality bass.

IMO=In My Opinion. I think he mean to say that neither AD700 nor HD555 good for dubstep, both have rather weak/thin bass (not good enough bass for dubstep)

I did not like pink floyd with my AD700's

 

Look into Denon D1001's or Creative Aurvana Live!

I have Auzentech Prelude sound card the PCI one and currently enjoying my HD650 headphones with it and the only what can i say is that if sound quality of music you listening to is important to you then Auzentech card is the way to go. After i switched to Auzentech from Creative and heard my music i understood that i'm not coming back. Currently i still can't decide should i upgrade my opamp or get new card. Be aware that headphone amplifier there is not for amplyfing signal but dedicated circuit for use just for headphones including high impedance ones instead of using line out normally intended for speakers. So it is there not just for headphones which need amp but to improve sound quality in general
