hmph. I was also wondering the same thing. Will need to replace my D2 at some point...

Ideally need something not too big, with 16gb memory and SDXC/flac support/decent hp section.

Apparently the FiiO X3 when it comes out will be able to handle newer high capacity cards as long as they're of a certain class (slow ones, i..e. not class 4).

interesting, thanks... I thought class 4 was quite slow =(.

I can't actually remember what way the numbering system goes for speed lol, but high-speed cards will be a no-no, but slow ones should work. The FiiO thread is in this forum somewhere.

I thought the FiiO device will only accept microsdxc cards... That's sorta odd. Smaller capacity, higher price, etc. Probably longer battery life though

That's interesting... if it turns out that the final product does indeed support 64GB or larger cards, it'll definitely be on my want list.

I'll probably get a FiiO X3 myself then,....IF it does work with SDXC cards.

The X3 looks very interesting but I see one major problem. It has a digital out, but I don't see any portable DAC's with coax in.

Indeed. That is one of the reasons why I'm hopeful Apple will release a 120GB iPod Touch this fall. That, combined with the Algorhythm Solo DAC and a slim headphone amp will do me. ALAC instead of FLAC is no problem, and the main reason why people want SDXC cards is high storage without the need to carry several cards, but a 120GB flash drive would be enough for me.
