Hi everyone at Head-fi,
I am a bit of a newbie and also somewhat of a lurker here on head-fi and have been for a year or so. I recently purchased a Nuforce Icon integrated desktop amp and a pair of the new Roth Audio Oli10 bookshelft speakers, which I received yesterday. I have a small office and flac files sound nice and clean to me through the Icon and the Roths. However, due to size, the speakers are of course lacking bottom end. The spec says they go down to 60hz. I have an old Logitech z2300 system, which I thought was pretty poor, but it served its purpose at the time. Hence my desire to step things up a bit, albeit on a budget.
My question is this; can I hook up the Logitech z2300 subwoofer to the lineout from the Icon without the damaging either amp or sub? It seems that from the numerous posts I have read, that crossover might be an issue, so I am not expecting any sort of wow-factor audiophile sound, but just wanted to test the possibility of beefing up the bottom end until funds allow me to get a "proper" subwoofer for my Icon. Who knows - it might sound better with a little average deep bass than no deep bass at all?
Any help/thoughts/opinions would be greatly appreciated.
I also just wanted to say that I think this forum is excellent - I have learned so much; I only wish I had more money to afford some higher end gear, but that is the way it is. I have some nice IEMs now (tf10s, silver bullets, Hippo Shroom EBs, RE0s - the RE0s being my favourites, albeit if they (also) lack a little bit of bass). I similarly love the clarity on the ath ad700 which I now own - even if they too lack a bit of bass (is there some sort of pattern here?) I am definitely no bass monster - I just love the clarity of the RE0s - might have to save up for the sm3s.

). All worked fine and the sound is actually quite good. I listen at low volume levels in my office and the sub adds that little bit of what was missing in the bottom end without any negatives. I don't notice any issues of frequency crossover (if I understand what that is) - i.e. what would be some sort of interference at 60-100hz (the upper of the sub with the lower of the bookshelves), so I am happy once more
. Maybe I could look into a cable for cleaner connectivity from the Icon line-out to the sub in, so I will look into that.
