Looking for a list of Discman/CD Walkman models by year/date & where they rank

Thread Starter

I recently purchased a used Sony D-E555 (not D-555) and am wondering where it sits in the product line. I can guess from the model number that it's probably one of the later flagship models but not the G-Protection ones. I am not very familiar with the flagships from before the introduction of the D-E01/D-EJ01, but do remember a flagship from the era right before D-EJ01 was introduced called something like D-E445 or D-E455. I recently came across the D-E905 & I don't know where that fits in at either.

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

I think the D-E555 was introduce in 1999, not sure where it ranked in the line up of Sony Discmans for that year. I don't think it was Sony's flagship model for that year. The D-E805 was Sony's flagship Discman for 1999 so the D-E555 might have been right below it. The D-E905 was introduced in 1998 and was Sony's flagship model in the Discman line up for that year. They are still sought after by vintage PCDP collectors and remains as one of Sony's better sounding vintage PCDP's.
