Wirelessly streaming bitperfect sound files from A NAS, to an external sound card (while...

Ok, so, I'm not even sure that whole thing is possible, but I  was thinking.

Right now, whenever I want to listen to music on my speaker setup, I have to switch the computer on. Switch the external hard drive on. Plugin my sound card. Wait for windows to load. Etc, etc... And there are times when I'd like not to have to wait 5mn to be able to listen to my music.

So I was thinking. I'd like to be able to simply control and play my music, without having to wait for the pc to boot up

If I get a NAS that supports UPNP/DLNA. And I use something wireless with UPNP/DLNA capability to control the playback (for example my Android smartphone). I suppose I could find some sort of adapter bluetooth-to-optical (might in fact be impossible to find such a thing, that wouldn't impact the sound quality, I have no clue to be honest) thing that I could stream music to, from the smartphone, and that would output a "bitperfect" stream to the external sound card. Which would have to be able to process that stream while the computer is off.

If you think I'm nuts, and this is ridiculously complicated (and that I should just go for a simpler solution, sacrificing a bit of sound quality in the process), you re free to say so ^^

But if you see what I'm trying to do, and have ideas on how to make this work, please also say so :)

After a bit of research, and realizing that this was probably in the wrong category (sorry for this), I think I ll try the squeezebox touch

Nothing wrong with the SBTouch but it uses its own protocol.

So you need Squeezeserver to run and this requires a NAS with some capacity (or your PC....)

You might simply look for media players supporting DLNA.

Big companies like Philips (streamium)  etc do make them.

A couple can be found here: http://thewelltemperedcomputer.com/HW/DAP.htm
