What would be a good upgrade from Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers?

Would AudioEngine A2 be a good choice or would that be a side step?

AE2 will be great for music. And music only. I personally own AE5 and after auditioning both the sets I can tell you AE2 does not have the power to provide the expansive feeling of AE5. If I was on a tight budget and cannot afford the AE5, I will go for other top end 2.1 speaker systems. That is because I do not only listen to music, I watch movies & play games also. My choices will be Logitech Z-2300 followed by Logitech Z-623 followed by Altec Lancing MX-6021. Of course the above three sets cannot be in the same league of A2 in music, but come movies & games the Z-2300 will blow AE2 in the waters. Also this 2.1 have dedicated sub woofers which will go down under the frequency range and provide that thunderous effect that AE2 desperately lacks. Now the choice is yours.

What makes it so bad for games? Because it lacks in bass? I don't really not a fan of wall shaking bass in fact i turn the bass knob pretty low. The preset mark that's on the knob is far too high for me because, well....it shakes the walls. I also though logitech was known for making really mediocre speakers.

Well if you don't play loud, hate room shaking bass, and want to listen to crystal clear music at acceptable volume levels, Audio Engine 2 is just for you.

Be happy with the AE2. Personal preference differs from person to person. You wanted a opinion, so I gave my opinion. I does not mean you have to follow it. Better follow your heart.

Does the volume not go very high on the a2? I don't mind loud speakers I just don't want the whole house to rattle like a low rider driving down the street.

I think my sub woofer saw what i was typing and decided to break. It doesn't work at all yet the satellites work fine now.

The a2's only have 2inch drivers, they will be very different to your 2.1 your go from having loads of bass to having none, you should also consider the m-audio av40 and the edifier 2.0 studio range both around the same price as the a2's but have bigger drivers and are more powerful.

There's a big rip in the subwoofer. I think I must of blown it out or something. I guess I have to buy new speakers now.

The BX5A Deluxe is a better speaker than the av40 aren't they? How would I connect them to a sound card with rca jacks? A trs connector to a single rca jack for each one? What's that xlr cable for?

Yes the BX5A are better than the av-40, yes 2 trs to rca cables or 2 xlr to rca cables , xlr is a balanced cable see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balanced_audio

No, it would be more like a downgrade if you want to go for audioengine take the a5 with its sub, is way better.

I bought the a2 and the lack of bass isn't the problem. I really don't like the way it sounds and I can'r really describe why. It's gonna cost me 15% restocking fee to return them.

I've owned both the AV40 and BX5a and recommend them both. Just depends how much you want to spend.

If you can describe why you don't like them lack of power/punch maybe, it will be easier to recommend you some speakers you would like.
