New GoDAP for iPhone4 - sweet!

So one of the blog sites I visit was at CES this week, and actually posted something interesting about the GoDAP - they have a new one coming!  It fits the iPhone4, provides optical out, dual burr-brown amps, and well, you can all read it here (be sure to catch the video at the bottom of the post):

Looks like its time to upgrade etysmile.gif.  Sorry wallet

Not released yet.

Definitely interested though, especially if it sounds great, we can have a killer amp for iPhone.

Supposedly going to be released in march or April...suggested retail is a bit high IMHO at $350, but we all know that can change...I will keep my eyes open to anything else about it.

Something does not make sense in that article.

Quote:
It has digital audio output, and can send it through a optical cable in either 96k/24bit or 48k sampling rate (adjusted via a toggle). That means you can use the DAC port to kick out audio to a home theater system directly from the iPhone itself, and because the amp is running, it'll sound that much better.

Amps and digital output don't usually mix.

Is this unit taking the analogue out and redigitising it? That is probably not a great idea.

Actually I have no idea what it is doing...  Subscribe

It's probably using a digital out from the iPhone dock, where then it can be passed to either the DAC and amp, or complete passthru to the optical out.

That would be fantastic - an alternative to the Algorythm Solo but with an amp built in. However I am not convinced that this is what it does. From this post here, it seems that it may be redigitising the iPhone 4 analogue out by way of a digital amplifier.

It could be a great product - just not an alternative to Wadia/Solo etc.

Here's hoping. If it does provide a fully digital passthrough, that would make a killer combo amp/DAC to be used with the iPhone.

That's what it sounds like to me.
