Just heard the Bose In-Ear that's another one to add to the list. They should rename it BassFart 101.

Gear mentioned in this thread:
Audio-Technica CK7, decent bass, really thin mids, and some really really really huge treble/mid treble peak....
Haven't heard many IEMs, but the UE3s I had were the worst for me
Paper thin sound, but were insane clear and transparent
Sony EX700

Worst high end iem: Sony MDR-EX700
A lot of piercing highs, hiss on the wocals, too bright and aggressive

I don't think the EX700's should be slated that badly...although for their price - yes. Saying that I got them for £70, then sold them on. For that price they were great :D! Don't get me wrong - I hate Sony now lol - screwed me over several times. "Why are Sony TV's better than Samsung or LG?" Manager says: "As we are a premium brand" LOL yeah right you WERE.
Worst for me:
1. IE8 - don't kill me but silver plated 3.5mm plugs!? Disconnected every 5 seconds + sounded like I was in a concert hall...i want it here not over there 5miles away!!!!!!
2. Apple earbuds - The in-ear ones - WELL OVER PRICED £90!? haha right. (No i never bought them, just heard them and laughed)
3. UE Superfi4's - Dull and flat sounding
4. Westone 1/2's - They were clear and crisp granted - but their bass just lacked. As Mark once said to me: It's because they are BA drivers not Dynamic ones....Don't produce as much air - he was right, just was't for me.
In short: If you like bass stay WELL clear of BA drivers...you will feel robbed. My £45 ex500's sounded better than my W2's in the bass department.
Just recently the plating on my IE8 is starting to come off.

lol...
Well the one's I heard were Mark's :)
I first bought them from amazon, and was shocked how bad they were - thought they were fakes.
Then several months later, demoed them from Mark, and in reality the ie8's i had bought from amazon weren't fakes, just that they were so shockingly bad I thought they were worth not even £50.
Especially with their silver plated jacks...i mean honestly WHY do that?

For me Sony MDR-EX500 is much more better then overpriced EX700. What I've noticed Sony have weird perception of sound quality as it goes for their MDR series: higher model = more treble and brighter sound. In my opinion EX500 is the most balanced from the MDR series

Agreed, especially for their price £40-45 was a steal...
then again, when the 751's dropped in price to £53 incl shipping...they beat the ex500's hands down.
Saying that they are back up at £70 - discontinued...
I might be selling them fro £45 soon, if the bass on the 710's open up a lil :D!
Honestly I've been really surprised and pleasantly surprised about the denon's
I never thought they would deliver....in the earphone market. Headphones is something else.
I thought it was always:
Westone vs. shure vs. sennheiser vs sony
Cross them all out and replace it with a huge
DENON sign :P
Would appreciate if denon made more earphones, i really like their sig - make a 4driver 3 driver phone like the W3-4's...in a denon - that would be epic, methinks :)

The worst IEMs I've heard are Altec Lansing IM716 and Bose in-ear. Worst high-end IEMs I've heard are M-Audio IE40, Sennheiser IE8, Westone ES3X and Ortofon e-Q5 with the IE40 being totally horrible and the e-Q5 being decent, but no good for a high-end IEM. The ES3X is totally overpriced for the sound it offers which is no better than that of you average $250-$300 universal and the IE8's epic fail are the awful ergonomics and also the overpowering bass.
