2.0 self powered studio monitors/speakers recommendations please...

I'm in the market for a set of speakers for the computer.  I won't be doing recording, just listening.  I'd like to get a very good 2.0 set-up that is self powered/amped.  Price range is up to $1K for the pair.  Preferably something with a smallish foot print, maybe less than 8"x 8".

Any recommendation you can make would be much appreciated.

I highly recommend a pair of Mackie HR824 monitors. They are fantastic.

Mackie's might go over that $1,000 price mark but they are worth every penny.

From what I've personally heard it's Genelec >> Dynaudio > Mackie.

After that there's not a great deal else.

I've got a nice set up for sale in the classifieds.  Bigger footprint than 8"x8" but a lot less than $1K.  They lean more towards a HiFi sound than a Pro monitor sound.
