Audiovox to buy Klipsch

The sale isn't complete yet and no plans have been announced. But I feel badly about this. Klipsch still has some US manufacturing and has been a proud brand for decades. I can't help but wonder if Audiovox is going to kill the Heritage speakers and start slapping the brand name on a ton of cheap crap.

I hope I'm wrong.

Seriously? I feel like I haven't seen the Audiovox label in years; I thought they were bought out or went belly-up. Went I think of the brand, I remember this awful portable DVD player my dad bought that put an unfixable greenish hue on every movie. Might have to snatch up some Klipsch stuff before any potential watering down of quality happens

I was contemplating getting some S4s. I wonder if I should do that now before they suddenly disappear?

that sounds bad. i remember owning an audiovox radio alarm clock when i was a kid. it was horrible. i wonder why klipsch would do this. they have a really good name in the audio industry.

I'm with this guy.

I remember Audiovox making psuedo colour screen cellphones in the late 90s / early 2000s, but I really don't recall anything else from them or anything of notable build quality. Kind of sad when these companies with deep histories in niche markets get swept up by companies that pump out crap with high margins.

Yea, I've seen this posted all over the place on the Klipsch forum.  From the members point of view they really feel it's going to be very bad for Klipsch.  A couple employees have a really good outlook and think it could be a good move.

Either way, I'm happy with the 4 different Klipsch speaker setups and 2 different headphones that I have.  I hope this move doesn't harm Klipsch as a company and brand that is well respected and loved, also with some speakers still made in the USA.

The reason you don't see the Audiovox brand on much anymore is because they own Advent, Acoustic Research, Jensen, Phase Linear, RCA, and various other brands.

I've had a diminishing view of Klipsch for a while now, but i'm sad to see them go down the same drain as those other brands.

Hmph, that may have something to do with Acoustic Research half-dropping off the face of planet. Still love my AR-7s though! : D

Looks like the ink is almost dry:

That explains all the discounted Klipsch headphones recently.  I've always equated Klipsch with high-end equipments, but Audiovox, not so much....

Audiovox purchased Advent and Acoustic Research from Recoton, and proceeded to run both brands into the ground.

Don't forget Klipsch also owns Mirage and Energy speakers.  I am afraid those 2 brands may meet the fates of Advent and AR.

No, Audiovox are alive and well, though they sell a lot of stuff through other brand labels. It isn't a nice thought that they have bought Klipsch, but things happen. Volvo was bought by Ford.

People here who are long-time fans of both Volvo and Klipsch probably began crying when they read that.

Here's another one: in Korea, Renault (not that good of a car company) partner with Samsung to produce cars. They are ugly MTF'ers. Renault's image around the world isn't bad, but French cars, somehow, have to be backed by giant conglomerates in order to sell here.

Every quality smaller company eventually will be swallowed up. There is no way around it. Whether quality stays the same, goes up, or goes down (often the case), isn't really the issue. The issue is that our impression of the company goes with the merger/trade/buyout. But thanks to freemarket, there is almost no way to protect against being bought out.
