I've been told the same thing about Q-Tips. They are okay for the external ear but no part of it should go inside because it tends to push some of the wax further in. I've had ear infections of and on for a lot of my life so I've been to the doc a few times. During my latest visit the doctor said every time you clean in your ears you should put some Neosporin or similar in the canal because of the layer of skin that's removed. Evidently it's easier to get infections there due to the usually more moist ear canal. But he's an older guy too so he may be passing on outdated information. I'm going to try the peroxide thing and see how it works.
I once had a doctor tell me that nothing smaller than your elbow should go in and no further in than your fingertip. Or was it the other way around?

According to my audiologist, Q-Tips can be very damaging, I have been using his recommendation for years and it makes perfect sense.
Lay on one side and fill one ear up to the top with 3% hydrogen peroxide for 5 minutes. You will hear a barrage of snap, crackle, and popping. When the popping stops, you'll know that all of the wax has lifted of of the ear parts. Turn over with a cotton ball in the ear and absorb all of the peroxide and associate nasty critters. It is what we use on all dive boats to remove all of the sea critters and extraneous sea water. you be amazed how much crap comes out and how much better your music will sound.
turn over and repeat with other ear.
Warning, make sure not to get any on your shirt or couches/beds, otherwise you will get the same results of bleach or battery acid on your precious Armani Exchange clothes that you saved so hard for. It's a bleach, which is why Marilyn Monroe used it regularly to make her black pubes into blonde ones (she didn't wear underwear andtheblac pubs would be adead give-away0.
Once a week does the trick, and definitely before meets. It is harmless to your ears and much safer and more effective than Q-Tips.

As I think I mentioned above, I did this a couple times. There must have been quite a bit of crap in there, as ever since I did it I've been a lot more sensitive to treble. Obviously this is my natural condition, but sometimes I regret having done it--now I understand why I thought a Grado was rolled off in the treble before the cleaning.

Ok just to clarify I know there not talking about laying on your side and pouring the peroxide in right....
From my understanding I'm thinking you pour it in and turn your head downward so it drips out.....or the opposite and let it sit there without the downward position

Nope. Lay on your side and pour a capful into your ear and wait for 5 minutes. Snap, crackle and pop. Turn over, and repeat.

Give it a month and you'll be back in the same boat. If you have wax in your ear, and you feel that it's protecting your treble sensitivity, I think something else is wrong. Maybe moving from a silver IC to a copper one.

Er.....not cool even though it's done with actual ear cleaning solution I would worry a little bit with peroxide. Most likely I'll say F it and do it anyways.

Foamies do an excellent job of grabbing onto the wax and pulling it out of your ears, but it shortens the life of the foamies.
My wife is from the Caribbean and she taught me to use some Extra Virgin (Ughh...even saying the word makes me cringe) Olive Oil, or as Racheal Ray calls it EVOO. Gently warm it up on a spoon (like a heroin addict, but only luke warm) and pour it in each ear for 5 minutes. Remember, oil is thicker than water, and makes the water and earwax rise to the to top (extreme snap crackle and pop...fireworks year round)) and then rinse each ear out with 93% Isopropyl to get out the oily reside. This also works wonderfully for swimming, snorkeling and diving. Also it coats and soothes the ears. Don't put the oil in you ears, unless you make a concerted effort to remove the oil. Oil and headphones don't play nicely.
Like the old Alka Seltzer commercials, I say, "try it, you'll like it".
