How do the Shure SRH750dj compare to the HFI-580's?

I don't like the coiled cord much though.. x]

You should look at the fiio E7 as DAC not an amp, you will have better SQ than with your onboard. You are just hindering yourself with any headphone sticking to crappy onboard. Again if you want a new sound card the Xonar DG is only £30 else the E7 is a nice performer.

I can reccomend the fiio E7, good value and has a great multi stage bass boost. Ditch the onboard sound its more hassle than its worth.

Alternatively a Asus Xonar DG or DX are cheap and good little performers and the EQ is decent (IMHO). You might be able to bring up the pros to you liking with either.

One of my main concerns from the start, was to run without the need of an amp.

On another note, I just finished returning my PRO550's, should have my refund soon.

I was recently reading this thread, which described that the while the HFI-580's bass was tight, it wasn't hard hitting..

..I feel as if I'm back to square one :C

+1 You should definitely concider upgrading your source first before anything else you do. Buying a new soundcard or a decent DAC will provide a night and day improvement, possibly more than what going from say a $50 to $200 headphone would. Crap source = crap output and onboard sound like that is just horrible, believe me.

Just checked..the E7 is $99. I cant spend ~150 on headpones and 99 on the e7; i really shouldnt be spending 150 in the first place x] (on a students salary) besides if i went that route, it would open the doors to all the headphones that would require an amp to drive, and id have to consider even a larger selection D:

Don't know about the amp part but just saying don't expect miracles out of any headphones as long your source remains what it is now.

Well my source would also be my iphone. Though i do plan in the future to build my own desktop pc, and when doing that ill make sure to get a quality soundcard.

So anyone have experience with the SRH750DJ's?

Looking at the graph they seem to have similar quality to the HFI-580's, but with more bass quantity?

graphCompare.php?graphType=0&graphID[]=2191&graphID[]=1973

I've been reading though that the build quality isnt that fantastic, unsure about sound leaks

bass, and htey requier more power then the 580, so it loses alot from an Iphone.

I'd get the xonar DG only $29.99 on newegg and cheaper headphones or look in the for sale section here  / ebay. For bang for buck get the XB500s first then upgrade them once you have the cash.

I use a laptop, no desktop.

Scytus, I don't think I've mentioned in the PMs but there is a difference in quality between amped (Yamaha) and unamped (headphone jack of Mac Pro) sound. Unamped sound (bass) is a bit (little but noticeable) less hard-hitting (compared to where it was). I have E7 on order so when it gets here I will report back the improvements (if any) using the built-in DAC and bass boost.

And I won't get the replacement pads until I get E7 as I may look for another phones after I try it on ;)

Edit: Doh! The phones in question are HFI-580

Hi everybody,

got mine (PRO 550) last Friday and I have to say: Brilliant! Jihaaa! :)

Pros:

  • Well-defined clear highs
  • Well-defined clear mids
  • Well-defined clear bass
  • Brilliant soundstage & 3D-ing
  • Good isolation
  • Detachable cables
  • Useful case
  • Extra Pads

Cons:

  • Not that comfortable after some hours anymore. They are relatively heavy so the new hard headband cushion puts a lot of load on the head without absorbing. But I have learned that after some month (1-2) the cushion gets more soft and the whole situation gets a lot better then.

I really, really like them a lot!

All the best!
