Does anyone here have this router? If so, then may I please ask you to reply with your experiences and opinions?
I subscribe to Verizon FiOS Quadruple Play for my home. I have an Actiontec MI424WR router, switch, gateway, hub, and modem. It is a traditional 10/100 MBps Ethernet and 802.11 B/G single band wireless router. I want to add 802.11n, multiple antennas, MIMO technology, streaming HD video capabilities and dual band along with WPA2 security to my home network. After calling Verizon FiOS technical support and Belkin, it seems that I need to establish an Ethernet bridge to the new router by connecting a Category 5e or 6e cable from both WAN ports to establish a physical connection between them. I also need to disable the firewall, networking, and wireless features of the Actiontec router too.
Has anyone here done this before?
I did a couple of Google searches and I found an article on how to do it, but it seems a little bit dated from several years ago.
I have not made up my mind to buy this specific router as of yet. The reviews are not good on Amazon.
Verizon FiOS specified that I need to buy a new wireless router that has a private class C IP address of 192.168.2.1 to make it work with their Actiontec MI424WR. Belkin and D-Link are the few manufacturers that have this specific feature to configure their products through a web browser.
As it stands right now, I do not have any problems with my existing Actiontec MI424WR router, switch, gateway, hub, and modem. It has served me well for many years. I did contact Verizon and they said that they do not have an updated router available that incorporates 802.11n and Gigabit Ethernet capabilities for home users yet.
What should I do?
