I did not find any threads on this yet so I wanted to put it out there.

Oppo has a new audiophile grade (whatever that is these days) transport coming in February.

If this thing can do everything listed it may be replacing my laptop and DAC as the player of choice (no more computer noise).

I wonder how easy the interface will be to use with FLAC files on an external hard-drive

Probably not as nice as a PC or dedicated music server.

But it would be my player of choice if I got one right now.

...its a disc player, not a file server.  how can you say one is "better" or "worse" when they are totally different devices?

that microwave looks nice, but a ferrari would be better :P

Because it can play MP3/WAV/FLAC files from an external hard drive, via USB or eSATA.  That's why he was asking about the interface.

More like: "My Lambo has a trailer hitch.  I wonder how it compares to my F350 for towing?"...

ah!  didnt realize you were responding specifically to his last comment.  that's a perfect analogy :)

indeed, I cant imagine anyone would get this for the sole purpose of accessing a hard drive, unless that comprises less than 10% of their listening time

For the record, I got the idea from here:

And actually, I think that's an even a closer analogy.

Personally, I want to get a Squeezebox Duet for that function.
