"I'm 12 and what is this" lol

Sorry man, you are SOL. Rockbox doesnt work on nanos. We are specifically talking about ipods that look like ipod video, specifically the ones that came AFTEr ipod video that had the cool non-glossy finish. Namely, the 80 and 120 gig ipod classic and the later released 160gig classic that replaced the 80 and 120 gig models.

well you have a 160gb classic, thats the only one from your list that will work. First stop, install emcore, it will run you through everything needed to install. Then download one of the build posted earlier in the thread, depends on preference, i have the 10band EQ one which works fine.

Then thats it, good luck.

There are instruction of the freemyipod site too...just checked and it is temporarily down, but check back sometime and have a look. All pretty straightforward. Don't be afraid, its worth it once you've taken the plunge :)

"...also where would i get and how much is it..."

...and by the way, Rockbox and Emcore are proudly open source, free for anyone to use and work on...by the people, for the people :)...

Sorry for a dumb question but which option would sound better.. iPod Classic w Rockbox + SR71-B or iPod Classic without Rockbox + CLAS + SR71-B?  ive searched and people are saying Rockbox wont work with the CLAS.

I suggest you do a bit of your own research on the rockbox website before asking such basic questions. Sync is drag+drop, itunes will not work with the ipod anymore, you just use windows explorer or winamp or something to sync regularly as you would with a flash drive. As for HQ files, I dont know exactly what you mean when you say HiDef. 24/96? I think that rockbox is limited by ipod hardware, so whatever the ipod dac can process, rockbox can process. I think rockbox turns an audio file into LPCM bitstream or something, but i think that ipod hardware limits it to 24/48, if i'm not mistaken. I think all current ipods can do 24 bit but I think it can only get to 44.1 or 48khz sampling rate.

CLAS will always sound the best. CLAS was specifically designed to physically extract the audio files from the ipod's disk and then convert them. Rockbox will not work with CLAS. CLAS will only work with ipod firmware. I dont know if the SR71B accepts single ended input though. I thought it only does balanced input. Im probably wrong though about that.

anyways, yeah. no rockbox with the CLAS.

Yes you can, but who wants to bugger around with that when you can just drag and drop?

In regards to battery life, apple rates their battery life using optimum settings. For example, low bitrate files, EQ off and no changing of songs or lcd screen use. So to be getting 17 hours of lossless playback with EQ on is a decent number, especially for software that has only recently become stable enough to use.

I'm using mostly lossy ogg and mp3 and I've been getting excellent battery life which includes lots of lcd use and browsing for new artists. I haven't run an official battery benchmark yet though.
