Ipod classic - rockbox - its happening. - Page 157

May be someone who has Ipod Rockbox`ing experience, could tell me which of Ipods should I get (I mean generation or classic/video versions). I`ve heard that 5G has good sound because of a Wolfson chip, but what will be with Rockbox`ing- which one should I get?

This does not happen on my 2008 120 gig model. It works perfectly. Is this a known problem on the 2007 model, or an indication my hard drive is damaged or failing? This problem does not present itself when using the original firmware. Only when Rockbox is installed.

Bump. Okay, still having this problem. Don't know why only the 80gig is affected. The 120 is working as it should. If nobody else has experienced this issue, I'll just assume the drive is damaged and move on...

The 5.5G has worked great for me.  I Rockboxed my own 30G on Apple and took my Daughters old 30G and Rockboxed it off Windows.  The stability of the port for 5.5 and the excellent Wolfson chip in that model has worked for me.  I recently was trying to convert 24/96 Rez down to 24/48 and ran across a free conversion software XLD if anyone is interested. Works much better than the FLAC converters I've paid for.  XLD converts virtually any freq or bit rate between the lossless versions.

I've been using Rockbox on various players for several years now, and I have never once used those functions. A quick question though.....do you use the Bass and Treble function? If not, then those cutoffs will mean nothing to you....that's all they are for.

Docking Station: I got a Classic 6G and a 7G. I bought Logitech S715I iPod speakers, but I can't get sound out of it. Line out and accessory power are enabled, I hold down the menu button while docking, I can play a track, everything seems to be working on the ipod, but still I get no sound out of the speakers. Can someone help me out, or do you know which docking station works with Classic 6G and 7G (the docking stations on the iPod Accessories Page are outdated). Thanks in advance !

I can't help you with creating "official" playlists....I don't use them.wink.gif Almost all the time, I either listen to an album, or I choose one artist and shuffle that artist.

There is a simple method that I occasionally use though, which might work for you. Open up two Explorer boxes on your PC, one with a "New Folder" and another open to your music library. Then open up the folders that have the songs you want, and copy the individual songs into the new folder. It takes a little while, but for example, I made a folder with 308 songs one afternoon, all stuff I would want to listen to at work, that my co-workers could also tolerate.....titled it "work mix", and at work, I enable shuffle mode, go into file browser, and choose one song to start playback with, and then it randomly plays the folder.

That's as close to a playlist as I get.smile_phones.gif

Thanks, I tried Rockboxing with 5.5G and everything is fine - no problems at all with installing and running it. Now I play FLAC files from iPod and sound is very good with REOs right from the player even without an amp. Wolfson chip does the job perfectly.

Later will check XLD but I can tell that I use Foobar2000 with plugins to convert everything and it`s free software also!

So if I buy a brand new Ipod classic 160g from the Apple store I can rock box it? Good combo with LOD and Jds C5?

Yes, you can. The first time I turned mine on was to Rockbox it. Read the first post of this thread carefully, as all the info you need is there...

Yes. As long as you follow the guide on the first page and do not deviate you shouldnt have any trouble.
