Musicbee has been flawless for syncing with my 160GB classic although I am not using it to sync FLAC files, but I do have my library itself in FLAC.  I transfer to HQ MP3 for the ipod.

I use Winamp to create playlists. Never had a problem. I don't use the database, just folder/file view.  It is possible to use Rockbox to create playlists, but for my $$$ it was too much of a PITA.  The Rockbox manual explains how to do it, if you/he are interested.

is anyone here currently using/had experience of running both a rockbox clip+ and a 7g rockbox classic? so far i've got a clip+ loaded with rockbox which for the outlay, sounds pretty damn good smile.gif now i'm asking myself if it worth spending £180 on a 7g classic? i mean in terms of just pure audio quality will i notice that much of a difference? i'm not at all fussed about the extra screen space, scroll wheel etc. the extra hdd is useful but i can swap out sd cards on the clip+ if needed.

so what do you guys think? are we talking mercedes v ferrari difference? or are they more closely matched, more like lamborghini v ferrari?

Hello, Head-Fi community, I have just rockboxed my iPod classic 120GB after reading about half of this looong thread.

I used the r859 emcore, it may be outdated but I wanted a stable firmware, as this is my first time experimenting with such things, and the 130217 rb from aroldan.

I'm listening to music from rb for the first time, as I am writing this, haven't played with the EQ yet. (so far I can say that the soundstage feels bigger and wider)

As a rockbox newbie, I have a few questions for you guys:

How exactly do I add patches to the firmware? Is it by pasting them to the .rockbox folder?

I may have made a huge mistake by forgetting to do a backup before installing emcore (whit which I had no issues at all). Do I need the missing backup if I want to recover to the original apple software, in case that something goes wrong with rb, or do I need it for my music files only. If the first goes, can't I just use, lets say, one of your backups that you have made? (for the exact same ipod model).

I want to thank to everybody, who helped my get rid of that Sh*t Tunes stuff, and made it possible for me to listen to FLAC on my player and not waste a huge amount of HDD space and time for converting.

If you have any recommendations for me and for my software setup, please share!

Happy listening and cheers from Bulgaria!

Well, I own 2 Clip+ and a 160GB Classic, all of them Rockboxed... smile.gif

I had the Clip+'s before the iPod and I bought it mainly for it's 160GB, line-out capability and because it could be Rockboxed too. If you plan to use your iPod with a LOD cable and external amp (a good one), then I consider the Ipod to have better SQ over the Clip+. But if you'll use the iPod just from it's headphone out, then I much prefer the Clip+'s sound. Mind you that I only use my iPod rig at home and I the Clip+ when I'm out and about.

Welcome. to answer your first question im assumimg your referrimg to all the patches listed with aroldons builds. Theyre already included in the Rockbox folder and are listed for reference only. Second I believe the backup is strictly for your music and such. Sounds like all went well so i wouldnt worry about it. I restored back to the original firmware a few times without any problems just following the instructions posted on Freemyipod website .

Alpha, I agree exactly with what putente is saying here..So make that another vote. If you are using line out, amp, and all that jazz, certainly the iPod. If you are using strictly HP out, the clip is just fine, in fact preferable in some ways.

Also I never take my pile of amps and wires out. When I leave the house it's usually just the clip or iPod touch and iem.

So...how do you listen to music other than the headphone out? You cant use the LOD on the classic when rock boxed? or a tleast, that's what the instructions led me to believe.

If you have a LOD cable and enable the Line Out option, you can do it.

That, considering he already has external amplification too...
