Wow these headphones look amazing, Craig could you give me a quote on how much the ED10s+recabling would cost?

I didn't say it was twice as thick, but it is noticeably thicker, especially when holding both with your fingers.  As you point out, it's a different cable with different characteristics.  The best way to look at the photos is to look at straight where the Qualia v1 and the Ed10 v2 wires cross and actually touch each other to judge from the same perspective and nearly the same distance from the lens.

Lee at Cryo Parts has said that the gauge is the same at 26 for v1 and v2.

I only see that he had confirmed v2 to be 26 awg.  But if that is the same as v1 then you both were right and I was wrong.  It feels different to me to the touch and certainly different in SQ. Thanks for correcting my error.

Could the actual wire be the same gauge but the outer sheathing be slightly thicker?

Yes the dielectric is slightly thicker..
