You found the name of the plug TRRS for Tip Ring Ring Sleeve.
You can just replace the plug on the end no need to replace whole cable. If they used enameled wire you will need to get the enamel off the end to make a connection to your new plug. Also, you might check online for the wiring in-case apple did their own thing.
TRRS should be-
Tip: Left
Ring 1 (next to tip): Right
Ring 2: Extra Feature (Microphone, Video, etc)
Sleeve: Ground
I don't know who makes good TRRS plugs, so you will probably just need to search around until you find something that will fit your case. It may be difficult to find ones as small as factory made ones.
