iPod Touch + LOD + iBasso T3 vs PC + iBasso D4 DAC/AMP

Hi guys !

I was thinking about buying an amp to use with my Pioneer HDJ 500's (45 ohm). Maybe a lot of people don't know these headphones because it are DJ headphones but i got them for my birthday and I really like them, they are defenitely a lot better than my AKG K518 that i had before.

I was thinking about an iBasso T3 or an iBasso D4. I would use the T3 only with my iPod Touch 3G with an LOD. But if i buy a D4, i wanna use it as a sound card to. But now my question is : is there a lot of difference between my iPod's line out and the D4 as a USB-DAC ?

And how is the sound of this amps : is it warm and full of bass or more neutral ?

I've not heard either amp so can't comment on the sound but I would go for the D4. It'll almost certainly be better sounding than your iPod.

T3 and D4 are not for basshead

And what about the upcoming Fiio E11 ? Aren't they more for warmer ? I know Fiio is probably not as good as the ibasso amps but the new E11 is suposed to sound better than the E7. And the E7 isn't that bad i think from what i've read.

But the E11 isn't a DAC, so one of my questions was and still is : is there much of a difference between an iPod with LOD and computer with USB/DAC ?

You can get good, punchy bass out of a D4, depending on your headphones, but it will never be 'subwoofer' style bass. Even fullsize amps struggle to replicate that sort of bass - you need to be realistic.

I'm not looking for miracles, I know it is just a portable amp, but there has to be some difference between certain amps like there is between headphones.

If you plan on carrying your T3 in a pocket dont even bother, after about 2 weeks jacks on mine started to fail and are only being kept alive by constant fixing...stupid cheap design...

Interesting. Lately i'm feeling that the T3 is not only not for bassheads but it's on the bright side of the sound. My 2009 iPod Classic sounds warmer through the HPO than through LOD+T3. In that config the gain in soundstage and bass is overwhelmed by the brightness it brings to the table. Since headphones used are SE530s i'm somewhat confused by that brightness almost to the point of preferring my cheap Fiio E5.

Is my T3 deffective or it just a bright amp suitable for trebleheads or warm sources ?

Keep in mind that the T3 is mainly for IEM and is much weaker than D4 in terms of power, the D4 would be better pairing. Also the D4's dual 8740 Wolfson DAC chip should also provide better sound quality than the iPod's line out.

I've been carrying it on the commute since July but not in pocket but clipped to the belt with a custom made clip (Check the theclip.com for custom belt clips) at the side of my iPod Classic also clipped to the belt with a iSkin evo case. Great for the sake of pocket volume and jacks durability.
