Speaker (satellite) problem - one is too quiet

Thread Starter

I bought some JBL Creature II (2.1) speakers (pretty cheap, used) for my for dorm room but one of the speakers is very quiet compared to the other one.

It's definitely the speaker, as I've tried multiple sources, used mono output, changed balance levels etc.

It might be because of a small drop when installing, but I'm not sure.

Nothing seems to be loose or broken inside.

Any ideas on what it could be?

I'm not familiar with this speaker, do they have separate drivers for the woofer and tweeter? One possibility is you got a refurb set where either the manufacturer (or maybe the previous owner) tried to fix a speaker and ended up putting in a different driver.

I experienced this once on an old set of Realistic Optimus speakers from a garage sale where someone had replaced one of the woofers with something that was the right size, but completely wrong for everything else.
