Today I decided to give Dr Dre Beats a sample and compare them to my Denon AH-D5000s, I plugged them into my Laptop, standard proceedure and I'm getting horrible amounts of static. My Denons don't have this static and the Beats don't have the static unless plugged into my Laptop, they work fine on my iPod & Phone.

I'm assuming this static is due to the fact that they require batteries and my other headphones do not, if I touch something metal whilst listening to them the static goes away slightly, however it still lingers.

I'm unsure which soundcard I have however I'm using a Dell laptop, I've updated Bios & Drivers today and that made no difference. With speakers and other headphones the static is not present.

I'm unsure what to do and wondered if any Head-fi'ers have had this problem in the past. I've read about external soundcards being the solution, are there any alternatives?

Cheers.
