In my experience, the ER6i was a huge improvement for $50 bucks new when I bought them.

I think the best valueI've heard is the Brainwaves M1. Often available for $30. Lack a bit of bottom but no more so than PL50s. PL50s are cleaner but the M1 is more even and textural. It's a pick em type deal depending on preference but the M1 is cheaper. Both are very comfy.

JVC HA-RX700
$57 on Amazon -> Good sound, excellent build quality and full size. I got them for $35 which is a steal to be honest.

Audio Technica ATH-AD700

$100 on Amazon (RRP $250)

Audio Technica ATH-A700
$110 on Amazon (RRP $300)

Be sure to burn them in plenty (75-100 hours) before making any judgments. Mine improved considerably in that time. Also look into different tips. I've settled on Shure E2c silicone single flange - noticeably deeper bass than the stock tips. And I've found that they work better for me with wires over-ear - they go in easier and I'm less likely to feel 'muffled'.

I found the Xcape and the RE-Zero to sound very similar. Basically the Xcape does the bass a bit better and not as forward (at least to my ears) in the midrange. I believe Sunrise does the OEM for the Hifiman line (although not 100% sure about this) so that might explain some of the similiarities.

Put in another vote for the RE0, I always want to try different IEMs/headphones, but I find myself coming back to the RE0s.  It is a great backup or even main IEM imho.

RE0's, AD700's, Xscape's, ATH M50 for $100.

Sunrise SW Xcape, JVC HA-RX700, KSC75

+1 on KSC75

Everyone should get that as a backup really.
