Nice.
holy damn that is a hot looking set up! Crazy how nice the silver concerto and stagedac go with the T1... and that macpro (?) just finishes it off.
Now we will be needing some impressions of course ;)
Yes, macbook pro. For now I am using the optical out. But I have an M2Tech HiFace on the way so that I can use a coaxial connection. :-)
Great pics. Awesome little system.
Thanks.
Just a quick question though - if you found good sound with a fugly setup, you would still rather go with that, yeah?
Of course! Absolutely no doubt about that! I am here to listen to great music. I couldn't care less if my setup looked like a garbage can as long as it sounds awesome.
Jan Meier also has the same philosophy. On his website he states that many times the amp enclosure is responsible for most of the cost of an amp - this is stupendous and a big waste of money for those who are only interested in the music. Therefore his enclosures are very modest, but as everyone knows, he probably sells one of the best SS headphone amps on the market today.
Also, when was the last time you found a dual Wolfson 8741 in a DAC at $700? :-)
Does T1 come with a detachable cable ?
Heh... Audio-gd's NFB-12 is dual Wolfson 8741 and it's $200.
I am a fan of both Meier and Audio GD and they both release quality gear.
In their respective price brackets they are very hard to beat and I am willing to bet the Stagedac is better than the NFB-12. By how much, who knows but Jan builds in China too don't forget... his designs are of extremely high value too.
Not to mention he has tons of features Audio-GD Dacs do not have, allowing users to "tailor" the sound to their liking.
But yeah, they do indeed have a design using two wolfons for a cheaper price. ;)
The concerto has proven to be a beast of an amp too. I loved it while I had it an almost regret selling it. I just read recently Skylad played his HE-6 in it and it was not able to get it to clip, even at 100% output into a difficult load... Jan really lets his PhD in EE show.
for entry into hi-fi Akart got himself one amazing combo for the price, or for any money really.
Congrats, that looks awesome!!! I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my Concerto (I believe it's the one sokolov91 used to own actually) to pair with my newly acquired D7000.
Also, please post some impressions before and after you receive that HiFace; it should make a big improvement.....
No it does not, which is a shame. To get a better cable even single ended needs surgery, soldering skills and voiding the warranty.
Why all TOTL phones does not come with mini XLR's is just cheap. Sennheiser and Audeze gives that option.
You might try QUSP if you don't want to try yourself, he is in Brisbane.
Oops ... you are right! Sorry, my ignorance! Anyway, my point was that Meier sells products with good value for your hard earned $. I am sure Audio-GD and some other brands do the same too.
Also, one of the reasons I bought all components from Meier, is because he gives discounts on packages. For example, my DAC, AMP and T1 on an average cost $700 each all said and done.
Thanks @third_eye. I will try to see if there is any SQ/stagewidth change with the HiFace - but I am not sure I can post about it critically since I am very new to the audio scene. To quote audiocritic, I am probably not qualified to write something like this: "The highs were somewhat chalky, but the upper midrange was wonderfully liquid, and there was palpable air around the woodwinds. The lower mids had satisfactory bloom; the bass, however, could have benefited from a little more rhythm and pace. Front-to-back depth yielded a Row G perspective. "

Congrats on your purchase, I bought exactly the same combo one week ago
It's a great little setup that sounds completely neutral and very natural to me. Also, pricing is very fair, I paid less than $2000 for the entire setup (and got a Headsix for free!).
