I appreciate everyone's comment & suggestion in this thread. I think the Essence STX should give me some improvements over the on-board soundcard (will test as soon as it arrives tomorrow), and I agree with some people too that it's an "ok" DAC/AMP even though we all know that there's a difference between being able to drive a high-impedance headphones and doing so with exceptional quality. The reason I started ask for some suggestions for a dedicated desktop DAC & Amp combo is because I have an Alienware m17xR2 too that I would like to use this headphones for. I think I should clarify that before getting grilled for "why ask for another DAC/Amp while you're having STX on the way" kinda question.  :)  Thanks
