Best systems with ultra-low budget

I don't know why, but I've been very fascinated about high-quality audio gear that is cheap.

What would your ultra-low budget (100-200€/$ max) setup look like? I'm sure there will be many possible combinations with such gear as Sennheiser HD 201, Sansa Clip+, Insignia NS-B2111, Sony XDR-F1HD, various T-amps and similar being around.

My own setup would be:
- Behringer U-control UCA202         24,90€ (Thomann.de)
- Superlux HD-668B                       29,00€
- AKG K-240 VELOUR POLSTER        16,60€

For a total of around 70€ you'll basically get a soundcard + a headphone amp + headphones that sound very, very good.

I found KSC75 from amazon.co.uk for ridiculous low price of £12.99 with free shipping to Finland so I'm going to have a try on those.

I can't find Sangean DT110 anywhere in Europe and DT120 isn't that cheap when you add a postage that is 50% of the price of the radio...

What I did found and order is Sony SRF-59. The radio is supposed to be even more sensitive than DT110 and only £12.75 smile.gif

Fiio E7 & superlux hd681

I'd probably just spend the money on a good set of IEMs as they're pretty easy to drive and will sound good coming out of a computer, which is where I listen most.

To that end, I'd be looking at Ultimate Ears and Shure. with the possibility of a Bithead AMP to round-out the sound.

Is there a good supra-aural Superlux?

Slightly more money, but still low budget:

Stax S001 <-- Stax SRM001 <-- Lexicon Alpha ==> Wharfedale 8.2 Active

I don't if they are good, but they seem to have several supra-aural models

HD551 Series - Music Appreciation Headphones

HD572 Series - Monitoring Headphones

HD572A - Personal Entertainment Headphones

HD551 at least look very sexy indeed :)

On a related note, I received Superlux HD 662F today. This model has been discussed here too lately and I can see the reason for it - first impressions are very promising.

Cron, could you post your impressions of the hd662f? I was looking into getting them for listening to rock style music. Do you think that they do rock well?

I just submitted a full review of them: Superlux delivers super value again
