So, I'm looking for some sort of all in one solution. I want to take my Macbook (and maybe later, a mini) and PS3's audio to my 5.1 speaker setup on a budget.

I think ideally, I would separate my audio and video because it seems cheaper. I can use my TV's HDMI ports for video and just change the audio output on my sources.

I can't afford a full new setup, but my Boston Acoustics VR series speakers and Velodyne sub still sound good enough. Would a DAC (quick google search brings up HLLY's 5.1 DAC) and amp (maybe DARED DV-6C, or a researched chinese 5.1 tube amp) be a good idea?

I'm asking not only for advice but also education, so if there are links to where I can know more about this stuff I would very much appreciate it. The last time I looked at audio stuff seriously, my Boston VR40's were considered legendary by local shops, so yeah, it's been a while.
