Same dumb question, just a different newbie

I am recently a victim of this website and enjoy all the informative information it has provided and feel really reluctant to ask advice since it seems like beating a dead horse with all these other posts concerning this same topic. However, I have a slight difference in musical tastes and not many have expressed these same tastes.

First of all, I currently have a pair of AD700 and have a pair of HD598's on the way here to South Korea. Also, I have a E7& E9 combo DAC/Amp. My tastes in music are strongly rooted in hip/hop, R&B, Soul and Classical, however, I also have interests in alternative and soft rock. Now, herein lies the question, what set of upper echelon cans under the $500 mark best capture my tastes with the given DAC/Amp combo?

I am not a Basshead but I do like pronounced bass but not overwhelming where I find myself clenching my teeth. I like the separation that my ad700's give as well as the soundstage. However I am looking for something with more refinement and something that will take me to the next level.

I have been considering the HD650's, AKG K701/702, Beyer DT880/990's. However, I am opened to other suggestions. Thanks in advance for your time because I know how this may seem overly redundant and daunting to rehash previously explained opinions.

I can vote for the HD 650s - but I haven't heard anything else but Grados and lower end Sennheisers, so my opinion may not be as useful.

I do have the E7/E9 though.

How do you like the E7/E9 combo? I am thinking of getting it at some point for a desktop setup.

I like your thread title so I'm going to chime in with a +1 on the HD650 suggestion.

Exact same reason I stopped by.

+ 1 more on the HD650 suggestion

How important is hip hop to you compared to classical?

I got rid of HD-650s specifically because hip hop was unsatisfactory for lacking bass.

The HD-598 should have even less bass.

Not saying that this will happen to you, but I don't think it's possible to cover those two genres effectively with one can.

Obviously, people disagree with me on this point.

If hip hop is very important to you, there is a significant, but not definite, chance that you will find these lacking.

I really like hip hop but I don't really have a lot of lossless files so I think I would only listen to it on occasion on these cans. I think this will be more focused on the genres that I enjoy however I do still want to be able to listen to it and not be disappointed by the sound. What would you recommend to me if Hip-Hop were a little more important?

Also I forgot to mention that comfort is also a big concern for me since I do have a big head.

What do you think about your 650 and e7/9 combo. Any noticable genres where these cans really shine? Are they too bright? How do the mids sound? Thanks again for your input.

I dont know about that match, but the 650's are superb for jazz and classical. You can have an idea on the review i made (sig), but they are paired with another amp.

Just to give you an idea.

I'm gonna chime in and say check out the Denon AH-D5000. I heard these the other day alongside 650's, some grados and the 2000's and they were fantastic. Broad and dynamic range like I have not heard before. Just saying you should take a listen if you can.

I should also add that I have the 990's and would guess that they sound somewhat similar to the ad700 but with alot more base. But similar soundstage (big). I love my 990's and listen to them several hours a day. Have not heard 701's but need to.

I'd say that they shine for.....

Hip hop, actually. I don't understand s-kang's comments at all.

The E7/E9 combo works well...by the end of today I'll be able to compare it to a HRT MSII+/E9 combo.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I am leaning more towards the 650's now. After playing with the 598's, I realized I liked the sound signature but it wasn't as refined as I hoped so I think the 650's should clean up the noise. Thanks again for your advice.

Thanks for letting me in on these cans but one thing I have a problem with is sweating and leather kills me. Otherwise they seem like a good choice to add to me wish list.

The 990's piqued my interest but what ohm do you have? Do you really think they have a bigger soundstage that the 650's? The 598's seemed a little narrower in the soundstage but still produced great sound for someone at my level of listening.
