Reading about the SR-009 makes me want an upgrade, maybe I should stop reading about them... (un)luckily I dont have the $.

I might have to see if I can't do an O2 comparison as well at some point.

I'll have to settle for enjoying this headphone vicariously as it is way beyond my point of diminishing returns. frown.gif

On a short listening,

I think O2mkI may not be able to match the other two.  Too dark for me even

with the modded 727a especially when compare to the SR009.

I will not have O2mkII,  I just lost the auction by 1000Yen 5 minutes ago.

Between SR Omega vs SR009, it's difficult to compare I think it depends

on listeners and the genre of music.  The SR Omega are more laid back, airy,

probably a little bigger soundstage, bass extension may be equal to or better than

the SR 009.   While the SR009 are more forward (I don't mean that it is forward

like the Grado), fuller & sweeter midrange while the soundstage is excellent, imaging

and detail is better than the SR Omega.    For vocal, pop, easy listening I may go to SR009

while the classical (not chamber music), audiophile music including  some of laid back acoustic

music I will go to the SR009.    I haven't compared with the HE90 yet but I have a feeling that both

are closer to the HE90 than the other phones.   The magic (which is difficult to define, the

feeling that music is around you, ambience?)aren't there yet.  The HE90 is more real music

to me e.g. when I listened to the jazz music in the Treme series, it made me feel that I was

listening, sitting on the floor in the preservation hall or walking with your friends at night

along the  Bourbon street or at French Quarter in New Orleans.

So it sounds like the SR009 is more similar to the SR-Omega than not - with the O2 being the most different among them?

I think it's between SR Omega and O2mkI    but more inclined to the SR Omega in term of soundstage

more detail and accurate    have the fuller, a little more colored warmer than the SR Omega.  I think approximately

70% on to the SR Omega .   I like it very much too because the mid and treble extension are excellent

Hey guys. Before plunking down $5000+ USD, check out the SR-009 Channel imbalance thread. It seems like it is a serious problem for a lot of people:

I heard that STAX is putting everything on hold for a few months - and that there hasn't been anything shipped to the USA through the official distributors yet. All of us in the US who have pre-ordered will just have to sit.

Knowing that there was some problems with channel imbalance, I wish I could turn back the clock

and wait for another 2-3 months before I purchased the SR009.   I don't think we know the cause of that yet

Report from Woo audio that 12% had problems of noises due to microdusting and there goes the delay

of US shipment for 2-3 months, which I think it's a good measure , solving the problems first and then

deliver the perfect pair for those who are waiting.   I wrote my impression on the SR009 here not because

I want you guys to plunge to purchase the SR009 but just to share experience.   Again it's safer to wait

for another 2-3 months,   the SR009 is here to stay because it is very good.  Delayed gratification should

be exercised here.

Just changed the interconnect between the Esoteric K-01 and the SRM 727II to Audio Quest Colorado XLR cable. About the best Copper interconnect you can get. with DBS technology implemented on both ends I decided to go copper due to the analytical nature of the Esosteric and also the superbly detailed treble range of the SR009. I won't consider higher end cables as the Stax amp itself is quite cheap - but I may upgrade the interconnect when my amp is upgraded.

I also opened up the SRM727II and flipped the switch to "direct". The volume is now controlled by turning on the digital attenuator of the Esoteric K-01. All set, and -

Boy you need to hear it to believe it.

I would not say anything made by Audioquest is the best anything, and their PSC+ cables aren't even on the same planet with the best copper cables. Emotion and Elation, for example, are all copper.

Thanks Dave for the info. I didn't know the Emotion and Elation are copper, coz all cables beyond US$2K I have come across are silver or silver copper hybrids. But just with this AQ flagship copper I already feel it is more suitable to connect between Esoteric K01 and the Stax than my TaraLabs The One. I now leave the TaraLabs for my Lebrn. Would be very interested to know other top end copper ones as well.

There are actually quite a few ultra high-end cables that are pure copper, and IMO they are among the very best. Silver can make for great cables if done right (or things can go very wrong) but the best copper can definitely challenge anything out there. Aside from the Kubala Sosna, there's Acrolink, Acoustic Revive, Harmonix, Jena Labs, Jorma Design, Purist Audio Design Corvus and Proteus Provectus, Shunyata, and I'm sure there are others that I'm missing. Kubala Elation and Jorma Prime in particular I think can challenge anything else at any price.

If you're looking to noticeably sweeten up the sound, I would definitely put Purist cables on your addition list. Corvus, Provectus, Dominus, and Canorus are all quite different from each other, which has as much to do with whether the shield is fluid, ferox, or contego as it does with the actual conductor metal employed, but they all lean to the warm side without sounding too dark or syrupy.

Please, I implore you, take the cable talk to PM.

Nice save, I'm enjoying the SR-009 comparisons. Thanks for sharing.
