I like to listen to hip-hop and rock, and also occasionally movies. Which has the better sound isolation and comfort?

Thanks

Nope, neither the 580's nor the M50's require an amp to sound good. They should work just fine with your Macbook Pro and iPhone.  L3000.gif

Generally I've read that the M50's have better isolation and comfort compared to the HFI-580's. The 580's are known to clamp pretty tightly at first.

I prefer SR80 to M50's sound signature. SR80s are livelier :)

Does the SQ of the 580 outweight the benefits of the comfort and more isolation of the m50's, or is the SQ so subtle that someone with a klipsch s4 wouldn't notice?

I'll be running them unamped.

To me out of the "bass-cans" the HFI-580 is over all better than M50s, HFI-780, DT770, SRH-750DJ, XB700, XB500 and Pro 700 MK2.

Speaking of the closed cans I have owned, only the D2000 is on par with the HFi-580, but it has definitely another kind of sound presentation.

Try PRO900. You will forget about HFI-580 wink.gif

I don't know where the claims of a tight clamp came from on the 580's. Mine were comfortable right out of the box, and I can wear them for 6 or 7 hours straight. Probably just me and my small head redface.gif
